The novel "Beidou Star", which is based on the mainland's Beidou satellite navigation system, has won many awards at the national and local levels and has been selected into the China Internet Literature Influence List (2020).
Ignite the flame of the fusion of science and technology and literature
I am a science and engineering man, but also influenced by the family, when I was a child, I liked to read and write, many articles in my student years have won various awards in essay contests, and I have repeatedly won articles for some newspapers and magazines after participating in the work, so I have strengthened my confidence in writing as a lifelong hobby.
Zheng'er Bajing moved the idea of writing a long novel, which goes back ten years. On the one hand, I have a lot of feelings in participating in several national and international projects in the aerospace field, and I want to record the bits and pieces; on the other hand, in the continuous reading, I find that literary works always feel that there is something unprofessional when it comes to the aerospace field. Of course, the art industry has a specialty, we can't be harsh on writers have a strong scientific and technological professionalism, but can you write it yourself?
So, after a few years of accumulating spare time, I completed the creation of my first novel "China, Take Off" in 2015, signed a contract in 2016, and successfully published it in 2017. At that time, this book was the first documentary novel in China to reflect the century-old history of civil aircraft on the mainland. Although looking back now, I feel ashamed of "why did I write this then?", the encouragement of that book is self-evident. Since then, I have also begun to focus on the accumulation and creation of novel materials, and choose to focus on the two major directions of reality and science fiction.
After signing seven cats in 2019, I was exposed to the real world of online literature. Although I already know that "all industries will face digitization, including literature", the way online literature is created, the habit of rewriting, and the relationship between authors and readers are quite different from the traditional literature that I am relatively familiar with. However, the editors are more inclusive, and I myself firmly believe that online literature can be comprehensive, and there will be a place for realistic and scientific and technological themes. Therefore, I have gradually written the accumulation of several years, and in the past two years, I have successively created the suspense work "Misty Sky", the realistic work "Big Dipper Star" and the science fiction work "Painting the Sky as a Prison". Among them, "Big Dipper Star" has the honor of winning some awards.
How did I create this work?
Inspiration. In July 2020, the mainland's Beidou satellite navigation system was fully completed and began global operation, which had a great impact on me who had been working in satellite navigation for many years, and many colleagues and friends who had become the backbone and backbone of Beidou, I was deeply proud of them. As a result, the novel of writing a Beidou journey became a fire in my heart and began to burn. I believe that many of us have experienced the "highlight" moment in our lives, which may not be our own, but can also be someone else's, but can resonate with ourselves, and such things often become the source of literary creation. A little flame rises, and soon it can burn the plains.
Frame it. After inspiration arises, it is like a sapling that breaks through the soil, you don't need to cultivate it deliberately, it will grow. Therefore, it is necessary to start to build a framework, and the framework here is divided into two parts, one part of which is the construction of the fact framework, that is, the development process of the entire Beidou satellite navigation system. Thirty years ago, what are the important nodes, key events and major breakthroughs, after these key points are determined, and then pull the timeline together, it is a rough story framework. On this basis, and then put in some interspersed events, consider whether to use interpolation or flashback techniques, etc., basically formed another framework - the story outline. I have the habit of writing an outline, and I always feel that this will make me never forget my original intention and not be biased towards the main line in my future creations. This idea may be more suitable for long-term large-scale projects and large projects similar to Beidou, but if it is to write a short-term event, it may not be applicable.
Set the plot. After the frame is set, the outline of the equivalent of a painting is basically outlined, and the plot begins to fill it more fully. Around those key points in the framework, for those interspersed events put in, further supplement the elements, such as antecedents and consequences, starting and ending, setting up some difficulties, obstacles, transitions and other things similar to suspense, increasing the vividness of the article and grasping human nature. I think such a step is necessary for a complex project like Beidou, but for other projects that are relatively simple, this step may be merged with the previous step into one step, which is called an outline.
Standing characters. Why have you only created a character until now? My reason is that the success of a complex project like Beidou must be the result of team contributions, even if there are multiple academicians who play the role of "Optimus Prime" and "compass", they still have to rely on a huge team to achieve. Therefore, in my opinion, the framework and plot are preferred, and then the typical characters are selected. This idea should not apply to the creation of all realistic themes, because many themes may be mainly driven by the protagonist, so the characters must be erected first. On the other hand, the protagonist is not suitable for standing too high, such as academicians, big leaders, etc. as the protagonist. Although they do play an important role, their lives are not accessible to ordinary people, and it is not easy for readers to have a sense of substitution after writing, nor is it easy to play. Therefore, I chose a few representative little people to focus on their growth. Beidou is a heavy weapon of the country, not only can help our military forces to defend the country, but also can serve the national economy and people's livelihood, all walks of life, at the same time, her international cooperation is also very close. Therefore, I set up three types of protagonists, focusing on the development, international cooperation and industrial development of the Beidou satellite itself. Of course, in the whole process, the role of academicians and leaders cannot be ignored, so I also arranged for them to appear at key moments and play an important role in promoting them.
Emphasis. After completing the above few steps, you can start writing (narrative). Why emphasize the main points of syria? Similar to the beidou such a complex long-term project, the whole process is actually very boring, day after day of research, experiments and experiments, a variety of meetings, sometimes a few months to do one thing, if there is no focus, it is easy to become a journal or a work report with literary and artistic colors. Therefore, I will focus on the above key points to describe, the other will be brushed over, or even not mentioned, such as beidou highlights of short messages, 100% localization, independent technological breakthroughs (such as atomic clocks, interstellar links, etc.) is a must be written, Beidou and GPS, Galileo and other mainstream satellite navigation systems in the world "love hate" is also a must be written.
In addition, I personally believe that dinners (including official banquets and private parties), conference room meetings, office meetings and negotiations must be written. While this content may be tedious and may not be remarkable, their role in complex projects cannot be ignored. Over the past ten years, my personal experience is that in complex projects, "small things open a conference, big things open a small meeting" is a hard truth, many formal work occasions can not solve the problem, can not promote the relationship, through the meal can often make a breakthrough. Not to mention negotiations, which are everywhere in such projects.
Do subtraction. Due to the long cycle and complexity of Beidou itself, coupled with its own sense of truth, it is often inevitable to write more, at this time it is necessary to do subtraction.
First, it is for confidentiality reasons. After all, Beidou is a military project, and I have to make sure that the technical parameters, technical ideas and related content written in it are completely public and verifiable, and if I can't find it, I will delete it without hesitation. How can you be sure of this? There is no need to ask professionals, they tend to see too much, but it is not easy to give actionable advice. The easiest way is to check search engines such as Baidu, if you can search, then it is okay to write, if you can't search, then delete. The short messages, domestic atomic clocks and inter-satellite links I mentioned earlier are the highlights of beidou that have been publicly reported by major media, so it is safe to write.
Second, it is for the sake of commercial infringement. Some things may not be confidential, but may be trade secrets, or it is advisable to delete commercial rights. The same approach can be used to determine whether such content is written in the end. I will also change the names of the real units involved in the Beidou project to fiction in the work, and pay attention not to correspond to the actual situation one by one, so as to reduce unnecessary speculation and trouble. Even beidou, I also used "Tiangang" instead. Of course, this is my approach, and I also know that some authors will use the original name to make the reader's sense of substitution stronger.
Third, delete some repetitive descriptions and exaggerated descriptions.
But for realistic themes, especially for major projects like Beidou, based on facts is the bottom line. Sometimes it is easy to write hi, but I didn't notice it at the time, so I needed to find and delete it in this link.
Run the manuscript. Since I have been taking the traditional literary route, touching the net is in 2019, so I have developed the habit of revising the manuscript. In the past, the practice was to put the manuscript on for a while, and then look back and correct the logical errors, plot contradictions, and rough descriptions. Online literature needs to be updated every day, unless hundreds of thousands of words of manuscripts are stored before signing the contract, but this is very risky, because when editing the opening text, it is often necessary to provide an opening of about 10,000 words, and it is likely that it needs to be revised. And once the opening signed, it seems that it is not good to go back to save the manuscript. Therefore, I took a compromise approach, slightly writing about a week of saving, using the method of rolling revision, and when I changed the text every day, I could compare it with reference to the development after at least a week, which was more controllable than not changing the draft at all and writing at will every day. For realistic subjects, I think such practice is helpful.
The above are some of my practices and feelings in the process of creating "Big Dipper Stars".
Overall, I feel that I am lucky and grateful for the recognition I have received, and in the process, I have also found that more and more authors like me have a professional background in a certain field and then use novels to record. At the same time, we have encouraged us to start paying attention to some professional fields, and more and more non-science authors have tried to create on their themes. I am very happy about this, which means that online literature is full of flowers and everything in Vientiane is updated.
