Feng Zicai, a famous general of the late Qing Dynasty who I want to talk about today, once joined the Heaven and Earth Society.
Feng Zicai's parents died since childhood, his family was poor, and he lived a life with no meals. At that time, martial arts were popular in society, and Feng Zicai also went to worship a martial arts master as a teacher in order to survive, so he joined the Heaven and Earth Society, but Feng Zicai was only a younger brother in the "underworld" at that time.
Later, the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom revolted, the momentum was huge, Feng Zicai also went to defect to the Taiping Army, and the unfortunate thing was that he bumped into the hands of Xiang Rong, the Qing general who was responsible for suppressing the Taiping Army at that time, and Feng Zicai was dismissed and returned to his hometown. Zhang Guoliang was very optimistic about Feng Zixiang and thought that he was a rare talent, so he persuaded Feng Zixiang to join him. Feng Zixiang joined the Qing army from then on, and charged all the way with Zhang Guoliang and the Taiping Army. Later, Feng Zixiang only took three thousand soldiers to guard Zhenjiang for seven years.
Feng Zicai went out three times to pacify the rebels who fled to Vietnam, and was promoted all the way in the Qing army. And because he was loyal and honest, the Qing court did not care about his origin in heaven and earth, but trusted him. However, when Feng Zicai was serving as the viceroy of Guangxi, he resigned and returned to his hometown because of contradictions with Xu Yanxu.
Later, the Sino-French War broke out, and Zhang Zhidong boldly used Feng Zicai. When the French army invaded Zhennanguan, Feng Zicai, who was already over seventy years old at this time, served as the commander at the recommendation of Zhang Zhidong, leading the "Cui Army" he had trained with his own hands to defeat the French army and achieve the "Zhennanguan Victory", which also became Feng Zicai's famous battle.
Feng Zicai still insisted on staying in the army after the Battle of Zhennanguan and did not retire until he was eighty years old.
