Local officials have reported 9 casualties, four of whom were residents and five of whom were New York police officers who were being treated for inhaling smoke. A 77-year-old woman was pronounced dead at a local hospital, while two other women, aged 82 and 68, were also being treated and were reported to be in stable condition.

The blast, which occurred about 5 miles (about 8 kilometers) from the building where the Fire broke out on Jan. 9, was caused by a heater failure that killed 19 people, including nine children, and injured 32 others. One resident told the media afterwards the details of the horrific tragedy, recalling, "Just like 9/11." ”

Previous investigations have found that many of the security measures in the building where the fire occurred have been ineffective or unreliable, including fire alarms to limit the spread of fire and fire safety doors that close automatically. On Monday, the City agreed to pay $2 million in damages to the victims and their families. (Editor: SDY)
