At the meeting, Michael Ryan, head of WHO's health emergencies programme, said that people may never be able to eliminate the new crown virus, and the virus may eventually become part of the ecosystem.
Ryan said what people need to do is reduce morbidity and maximize the vaccination of the world's population, which requires a more equitable distribution of vaccines. Ryan said more than half of the world's population has received two doses of COVID-19 vaccines, compared to only 7 percent of the African population.
