Former South Korean President Park Geun-hye's new book, published before her release, is currently a hit in South Korea, and some of her remarks have been interpreted by the South Korean media as a hint of a return to politics. In view of the approaching general election, the government and the public are strongly concerned about this. On January 16, Ms. Park's lawyer, Yoo Young-ha, responded positively.

In her new book, "Not Everyone Misses Me," Park Geun-hye writes, "Fellow citizens, one day, I will meet you again" and "If there is something I can do for Korea, I will do it." In addition, she repeatedly referred to the impropriety of impeachment and denied the verdict in the "cronies interfering in politics" case. Such remarks have been interpreted by South Korea's Culture Daily and other media as "hinting at the need to resume political life after being released from prison."

Park Geun-hye's new book

According to Yonhap News Agency reported on the 16th, Park Geun-hye's lawyer Yoo Young-ha responded to the statement "One day, I will meet you again" in an interview. He explained that rather than having political implications, Park Geun-hye hoped that when she returned to society, she would meet again with the many people who were expecting her release and waiting for her pardon. "Literally, there is no return to politics."

Park Geun-hye is expected to be discharged from the hospital in early February, when she will personally address the nation. In view of the fact that South Korea will usher in the presidential election on March 9, some analysts believe that Park Geun-hye has a greater influence in the conservative camp, and her political-related remarks may stir up the general election situation, so the government and the opposition are all nervous. But Ms. Yoo said Ms. Park had not recently mentioned the situation in the election or the presidential candidate, and that "she had her own ideas" about what to say when she was discharged.

Park Geun-hye was detained in March 2017 for being involved in a "crony interference" case, and was imprisoned for a total of 4 years and 9 months, even more than the 4 years and 1 month of being president, becoming south Korea's longest-serving former president.

On December 24, 2021, the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Korea announced that it would grant amnesty to Park Geun-hye in order to promote national unity. South Korean President Moon Jae-in expressed hope that the move would be an opportunity to usher in a new era of unity and reconciliation, and said that Park Geun-hye's health had deteriorated significantly in the past five years in prison, hoping that opponents would understand. Park Geun-hye responded on the same day that she was pardoned and expressed her "deep gratitude" to Moon Jae-in.
