Walking into the Olympic Sports Building of Xuanhua District No. 2 Middle School, an enlarged athlete certificate hangs on the wall of the corridor. For the students of the ice and snow class, Tian Yaxiao, the owner of this certificate, is an example for them to learn and catch up.
In 2015, the only ice and snow school in China that combines sports and education, "Zhangjiakou Youth Winter Olympic Sports School", was officially established here. After several years of development, the school has set up five professional teams such as alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, and snowboard U-shaped tracks.
Due to the high risk of snow sports, it is recognized as a sport that "eats youth rice". It is also true that many of the world's biggest names have achieved great results before the age of 20. Time is pressing, in order to concentrate on cultivating potential athletes, the school ice and snow class only recruits 50 people per year, and has signed a comprehensive strategic cooperation agreement with the Ice and Snow College of Jilin Sports Institute and the Austrian Kitzbil Ski School, hiring a number of famous domestic ski instructors to teach at the school, in addition to the daily and careful training arrangements, after entering the snow season, students also have to go to Chongli Ski Resort for a 140-day closed training.
Without a chill to the bone, how to get plum blossoms. Today, 19-year-old Tian Yaxiao has become the best here, not only selected to the national training team, but also won the fourth place in the history of alpine skiing women's giant slalom at the 14th National Winter Games. In addition, at present, 32 people in the school have been selected for the national ski training team, 34 people have been selected for the hebei provincial ski team, and they have won 192 gold, 177 silver and 153 bronze in provincial and above level events. Nowadays, Xuanhua No. 2 Middle School has become a base for sending ice and snow sports talents to the city team, provincial team and even the national team.
The beneficial practice of Xuanhua No. 2 is only the epitome of the city's vigorous development of ice and snow sports. Since 2015, the city has focused on popularizing ice and snow sports in primary and secondary schools in the city, and has planted the seeds of "ice and snow" in the hearts of students by combining classroom teaching with various forms of ice and snow practice experience and colorful ice and snow events. In particular, the annual Municipal Student Ice and Snow Games has become an ice and snow feast that primary and secondary school students look forward to. At present, there are 45 ice and snow sports characteristic schools named by the Ministry of Education in our city. The foundation of ice and snow sports in the city has grown from scratch, from the process of becoming stronger, and it is also the process of many teenagers from "no feeling" to "falling in love".
Accelerate the advancement and make the "niche" movement popular with the public
Although it is already nine cold days, it is crowded in the outdoor ice rink of the "Ice Dream" skating rink in the Economic Development Zone. Many skaters come here early. They stripped off their cotton coats, dressed in lean, bent over their knees, hands behind their backs, and sped lightly on the 400-meter standard speed skate track. From time to time, these "slippery friends" also silently lined up in a line, like a writhing dragon, attracting the public to stop and watch.
The 800 square meter indoor ice rink is equally exciting. A group of players wearing protective gear and holding clubs are playing an ice hockey teaching game. They flew through the ice and fought fiercely, bringing out what became known as the "brave game." At present, there are 60 registered ice hockey players in our city. The sport has attracted more attention after the Hebei team, which was selected by 13 people in our city, won the sixth place in the country a year ago in the national ice hockey championship for elementary school students.
The "Ice Dream" ice rink is a representative venue built in the process of promoting and popularizing ice and snow sports in our city, and after opening in 2020, it will receive 30,000 visitors a year. Planting a thick snow and ice soil not only trains athletes and improves professional skills, but also needs sufficient support on mass venues. Since the successful bid for the Beijing Winter Olympics, the city has been accelerating the construction of ice and snow venues. According to the natural conditions and economic development level of each county and district, make full use of the existing sports land and vacant places, and make every effort to promote the construction of skating halls and ski resorts to break the time and space restrictions, promote the expansion of ice and snow sports from single seasons to four seasons, and truly consolidate the mass foundation of ice and snow sports.
Not long ago, with the official opening of the Weixian Indoor Skating Hall, it marked that the indoor skating hall in our city has entered the "20 seats" ranks. Not only that, in the past 7 years, the city has also built 22 ice and snow sports demonstration parks, built 59 ice and snow sports training bases, including 2 standard ice skating halls, 3 real ice non-standard ice surfaces, which can carry out short track speed skating, figure skating, ice hockey, curling and other projects (activities) and training; in addition, the city has also built 6 cross-country ski resorts, 31 mass entertainment snow fields, and strive to achieve full coverage of indoor skating halls and mass ski resorts, so that residents of various counties and districts can "go out of their homes on ice and snow" at the same time. It has also accelerated the taking root of ice and snow sports in the local area.

Cookware as curling, broom as ice brush... Not long ago, a fun "curling" competition was staged in Yugouliang Village, Zhangbei County, which is known as the "first village of yoga in China". More than 20 villagers came to the ice surface of Dongtan, and various cooking utensils and kettles that were idle in their homes were transformed into village "curling" to throw and hit fixed targets. Although the weather is cold, the villagers are still interested and happy.
Ignite the passion of ice and snow, in densely populated areas, also among the countryside. At present, although the city has driven a total of 5 million people to participate in ice and snow sports. However, in some villages, the strong ice and snow atmosphere cannot be felt because of the distance. In order to promote ice and snow sports to cover more corners of urban and rural areas, our city has actively carried out the "Ice and Snow Caravan" series of activities in 100 counties and thousands of townships, and through mobile teaching, the ice and snow sports equipment and professional knowledge have been brought to the farmers, so that they can have the opportunity to contact professional and interesting ice and snow sports. At present, the "Ice and Snow Caravan" activity has entered 209 townships and 1039 villages in our city. Many croppers who have experienced "ice and snow" are also like the villagers of Yugouliang, holding their own grounded activities, entertaining themselves while subtly becoming promoters of ice and snow sports.
After 7 years of accumulation, it has become a way of life for many citizens to get close to "ice and snow". With the enthusiasm of "ice and snow" in our city, the spread of "ice and snow" is now not only at the sports level.
At present, how to solidify the hard-won concept of ice and snow sports, integrate into people's blood, and become the legacy of the post-Olympic era? Excavating the ice and snow culture with a sense of local identity is undoubtedly a better way to solve the problem.
