In the "China Good People List" released in September 2019, 106 unknown devotees were recommended and put on the list, among them, one elderly person was very special. In the Battle of Shangganling, he single-handedly annihilated more than 400 enemy troops and shot down one enemy plane with a machine gun.

His name is Jiang Cheng, and he was born in 1928 in Longxing Town, Hechuan District, Chongqing. After witnessing the crimes of the invaders in his youth, Jiang Cheng had a heart to serve the country from the military since he was a child. In 1949, the 21-year-old Jiang Cheng finally realized his dream and became a soldier. After the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea began, the 31st Division of the 11th Army, to which Jiang Cheng belonged, was incorporated into the Volunteer Army, and at this time, Jiang Cheng had only been in the army for more than a year.
After arriving in North Korea, Jiang Cheng was so brave that at the age of 23 he was appointed deputy squad leader of the machine gun company. On the battlefield of the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, Jiang Cheng was introduced to the party with his outstanding performance.

In October 1952, the Battle of Shangganling was fought. In half a month, more than 5,600 soldiers died in bloody battles, and the division's 27 infantry companies, 16 of which were destroyed twice, were rebuilt again. On November 8, 1952, Jiang Cheng's 92nd Regiment arrived at Shangganling, and their superiors asked them to launch an attack three days later.
After going to the battlefield, the enemy's planes bombed indiscriminately in the air above, and the comrades-in-arms looked for cover to hide, but Jiang Cheng, as a machine gunner, directly carried the machine gun and jumped into a deep pit. He mounted his gun on top of the pit and attacked the enemy's tight seal. Since it was in a deep pit and there was no cover, as long as the enemy dropped a shell, Jiang Cheng might not be able to run out.

In the fierce battle, a shell suddenly exploded around him, and the bomb fragments cut his stomach. In an interview in his later years, Jiang Cheng once said: "When the stomach is pierced, he will rub his intestines into it and beat it!" In the case of being seriously wounded, Jiang Cheng has always refused to go down the line of fire, and in order to create conditions for the infantry, he has been keeping a close eye on the enemy. In this way, Jiang Cheng endured severe pain and gritted his teeth to complete the task.
In Jiang Cheng's meritorious service notes, he described in detail his battle record, annihilating more than 400 enemy troops, shooting down one enemy plane, destroying one heavy machine gun, blocking the enemy's transportation road, suppressing the enemy's fire points, and making outstanding contributions to the victory of the war. This battle seriously injured Jiang Cheng, and at the same time, this battle also made him famous in the first battle and won the first class merit.

A year later, Jiang Cheng was promoted to company commander and continued to lead his comrades-in-arms to charge. In 1954, after the end of the war, Jiang Cheng also returned to China with his troops. Because there were not enough barracks at that time, they needed to build their own barracks. In the construction, Jiang Cheng was responsible for the work of laying rammed stones, and he completed more work than the two people did, which played a very good exemplary and leading role. Because of his outstanding performance, he was awarded the third class merit.
However, after the barracks were built, Jiang Cheng did not live for a day and retired from the army. In February 1955, Jiang Cheng returned to his hometown, and he brought back only five things: a pair of shoes and socks, a set of plainclothes, a towel, a soap and a 16-foot cloth ticket.
After returning to his hometown, Jiang Cheng put away all his honors and became an ordinary farmer. Here, 27-year-old Jiang Cheng married and had children, he did not ask the relevant departments to introduce himself to a job, but as a farmer to work as a farmer, when the farmer is idle, he will go out to do some odd jobs to subsidize the family.

In 1964, because of Jiang Cheng's good sericulture skills, he was introduced to longxing township sericulture station and became a temporary worker. And this job, he has been doing for 24 years.
In 1983, Longxing Township wanted to build a road. This incident is a good thing in Jiang Cheng's view. So he took the initiative to take the lead in building the road, and under his leadership, the villagers were very energetic. However, half of the road was repaired but there was no money. Jiang Cheng asked everyone to continue to do it, and the money thing was to find their own way.
If you want to build a road, you have to take out a loan. Therefore, Jiang Cheng, in the secret of his family, borrowed money from the credit cooperative in his personal name to build the road. In the end, the road was repaired, and Jiang Cheng also owed a huge debt of more than two thousand yuan. This money, in those days, can definitely be called a "huge debt".
Eight years later, Jiang Cheng called his 23-year-old son Jiang Minghui to his side and said to his son: "The money for road construction in those years was my own loan, and when I was old, I could only rely on you to pay you back." Jiang Minghui was confused at that time, and only after checking did he know that there were still 2400 yuan that had not been returned.

At that time, Jiang Minghui had just participated in the work for three years, saving 1,000 yuan for thrift, and was originally planning to marry his daughter-in-law, which was like receiving a thunderbolt on a sunny day. In the end, Jiang Minghui sold his house for 400 yuan and put some together to help his father return the money. For this reason, the girlfriend was so angry that she went out to work, and later, after the two got married, they could only live in their father-in-law's house.
In 1988, when Wang Jueying, the principal of Hechuan Normal School, was sorting out the "Chronicle of Hechuan County", he accidentally found a "Good News of Revolutionary Soldiers' Meritorious Service" when consulting archives and materials, and this good news was exactly what was sent to Jiang Cheng 36 years ago. However, the address of the letter was mistakenly written as "Xinglong Township", and in the remarks it was written "No one can be found, and the original road is returned". In these 36 years, Jiang Cheng has never mentioned his military merits to others.
Jiang Cheng's "Good News of Meritorious Service"
At this point, this first-class meritorious man who made a miraculous contribution to the Korean battlefield was known to the world. In September 1988, Jiang Cheng was designated as a regular worker of sericulture station in Hechuan District, with a salary of 80 yuan per month, and became a "national worker". However, at that time, Jiang Cheng had just passed the retirement age and retired as soon as he entered the company.
Jiang Cheng was selected for the "List of Good People in China" not because of his military merits, but because he had done so much for the village over the years. No matter whose family has any contradictions, he will always mediate. In 2015, the 86-year-old Jiang Cheng also came forward to mediate land circulation for the village.
Jiang Cheng, who is already more than ninety years old, even if his speech and sanity are not very clear, still put the country first. When his wife persuaded him to take off the old military pants full of holes on his body, he said with great effort: "I am a person of the country, and I still have to do things for the country!" "Perhaps in the hearts of such people, after paying their own strength, fame and profit are really worthless!"
