In 1981, in Xuzhou, Jiangsu Province, some people reported that there were ancient tombs on the western slope of Guishan Mountain, and the expert group rushed to it. Because the burial chamber was pitch black, the team found an electrician to install lights in the burial chamber. Who knows, when the electrician was creeping at work, he felt that there was a hard object under him and he stuffed it into his pocket, and the electrician could not have dreamed that the hard object he picked up would become the only clue to crack the identity of the owner of the tomb after 4 years...
In February 1981, several members of the society quarried stones in Guishan, and a cannon blast exploded a lot of square stones, and the size and pattern of these stones made the members vaguely aware that they might have exploded into the tomb. Therefore, the members immediately stopped quarrying and reported the matter to the county cultural management department.
Soon, archaeologists set out in the direction of Xuzhou. Along the way, several experts did not say a word, the surface was calm and indifferent, but the heart was mixed with expectations and excitement...
When they arrived at the scene, the members of the expert group could not take a break and immediately threw themselves into the survey work with full enthusiasm.
After investigation, this is a rare cliff cave tomb. The so-called cliff cave tomb is to break the convention of digging a pit on the ground to build a tomb, choose a mountain, and then excavate it into a tomb passage and burial chamber, so that the tomb is more stable and safe, which can greatly reduce the "patronage" of tomb robbers.
Generally speaking, there must be countless precious cultural relics in this form of tomb, and experts are happy one by one. For a moment, some experts speculated through the carving patterns of those stones and the shape of the tomb that the age of this tomb was roughly in the Western Han Dynasty.
When the rest of the experts heard this, they could no longer suppress the ecstasy in their hearts, and they understood that the Han tomb would produce treasures. In this regard, all the experts present have said: Dig!
Just as the excavations were proceeding in an orderly manner, a conundrum arose: the tomb was pitch black and required lighting.
In order not to delay the excavation, the experts decided to go down the mountain to find an electrician nearby to get electricity, and finally the electrician was invited up the mountain.
Who knows, this electrician felt that there was a hard object under him when he was creeping to work, and because the hole was narrow, he took it out and stuffed it into his pocket to continue working.
After the electricity was turned on, the expert group immediately accelerated the speed of excavation, and it did not take long to dig several stolen holes of different sizes, which made the experts feel cold, because there was a thief's cave, which meant that the tomb had been stolen and the thieves had climbed first...
The excavation of Yongdao was still continuing, and suddenly, an expert shouted, "Come and see, there are words!" The rest of the experts flocked to them, afraid of missing something.
I saw that a large stone in the Yongdao was engraved with the following sentence: "Chu Gu Corpse King Tong Yu Tianshu Funeral Coffin Guo Bu Bu Bo wa Ding Sheng Instrument Ling Qunchen has been buried to serve no gold and jade Ware The sages of later generations are fortunate to see this book and this is also the compassion of the benevolent."
The translation means that the ancestors of the King of Chu once swore to heaven that after entering the coffin, they would not use those luxurious crock pots and utensils for burial, and the owner of the tomb would not wear simple clothes, nor would he bring gold, silver and jade into the coffin.
To put it bluntly, this passage is written for the tomb robbers, "Go ahead, I don't have the gold and silver treasures you want in this tomb." ”
When the experts saw the first few words and understood that it was the tomb of a certain Chu king in the Western Han Dynasty, the small universe was ignited again, and when they read the complete sentence, they fell down one by one.
Despite this, the experts did not give up and turned their attention to the burial chamber, but there were indeed no funerary items in the tomb, but two objects in the northwest corner of the tomb caught the attention of the experts: a coin from the Wang Mang period and a celadon plate used to hold oil lamps during the Wei and Jin dynasties.
Apparently, this was left behind by the tomb robbers, and there have been at least 2 excavations here!
Just when everyone thought that the excavation was about to come to an end, a new discovery once again made the experts feel refreshed: some experts found that the stone with the inscription seemed to be deliberately placed here to block something, and sure enough, when the experts took great pains to remove the stone, they found that there was no hole in the back!
After the stone is another burial area, is the tomb of the Chu King's wife, I did not expect that this is a husband and wife burial tomb!
The next discovery confirmed that the admonition on the stone in front of it was basically "there is no silver in this place for three hundred and two", because experts found a large number of precious cultural relics such as pottery maids, copper dings, gilded bronze tigers, and dragon-shaped jade pendants.
Although so many exquisite funerary items have been found, experts have not found an object that records the identity of the owner of the tomb, because this tomb is located in Guishan Mountain, which experts temporarily call the Guishan Han Tomb.
The Guishan Han Tomb, 83 meters long from east to west, 33 meters widest from north to south, with a total area of more than 700 square meters, almost hollowed out the entire mountain. Moreover, there are 15 large and small supporting facilities in the tomb, including the master bedroom, the second bedroom, the kitchen, the stables, etc., all of which are readily available, just like an underground palace.
In the kitchen, experts found that there were fruit cores of fruits such as dates, peaches, plum apricots, and sour dates, and it can also be inferred that the burial time of the tomb owner was roughly in August and September.
Such a huge tomb, experts took more than 4 years to excavate and clean it up, but from beginning to end, experts have not been able to determine the identity of the owner of the tomb, until one day...
On that day, when a local electrician in Guishan was arguing with others about the identity of the owner of the Guishan Han Tomb, he accidentally exposed the hard object he had picked up in the process of installing the lamp, and the hard object was nothing else, it was a seal.
Unexpectedly, the next day, the archaeologists found the electrician and hoped that he would hand over the seal, so that the electrician would finally agree.
This is a turtle button seal with the word "Liu Note" engraved on the bottom.
At this point, the identity of the owner of the Guishan Han Tomb was revealed, he was Liu Zhu, the 6th King of Chu in the Western Han Dynasty, and the tomb after the stone stuffing on the north side was Liu Zhu's wife tomb.
Although no national treasure-level cultural relics have been excavated from Liu Zhu's tomb, Liu Zhu's tomb has a huge project and ingenious design, and is known as 'a wonder of the ages' and 'a must in China'.
It is worth mentioning that during the excavation process, experts found that there was a very conspicuous "human figure" in the corner of the wall above Liu Zhu's coffin, and this figure folded his hands on his chest to make a salute to people, which looked particularly strange, and even experts could not explain the intention of this "figure".
