In the forty-third year of the Qianlong Dynasty of the Qing Dynasty, the Qianlong Emperor rehabilitated Dolgun, restored the title of Prince of Rui, and made an evaluation of it: "Fixing the foundation of the country and opening up the foundation, becoming the cause of unification, and making the most meritorious contributions." ”
Through Qianlong's evaluation, it can be seen that Dolgun was a figure of great importance in the history of the Qing Dynasty, and his exploits were comparable to any emperor.
In fact, Dorgon had three chances to ascend to the throne, but he gave them all up, the first time after the death of the Qing Taizu Nurhaci, when Dorgon was young and unable to compete with several older brothers. The second time was after the death of Emperor Taiji, when no one in the Qing Dynasty presided over the grand plan, and because of the dispute between Prince Hauge of Su, Dorgon took a compromise approach and put Shunzhi on the throne. The third time was after the Qing army occupied Beijing, when Dorgon's power could be said to have reached its peak, dominating the dynasty and being able to stand on his own at any time, which was his best opportunity, but Dorgon also gave up.
As for why Dorgon gave up the opportunity to ascend to the throne, the world rumors that he had an ambiguous relationship with Empress Xiaozhuang, and even the suspicion of "the empress dowager marrying", however, in the official historical data, there was never a relevant description of the empress dowager's marriage, which seems to be a contemptuous act of the Han literati against the Qing court.
By analyzing the situation of Dorgon's wives and concubines and children, we can look at the emotional experience of this generation of tyrants in the Qing Dynasty.
First of all, Dorgon's concubine Fujin is the Borzigit clan (the name is suspected to be Batma), that is, "Xiao Yu'er" often referred to in film and television dramas, and the Borzigit clan is the daughter of Horqintai Gisonom and Princess Korqin, and in fact her relationship with Empress Xiaozhuang is more complicated.
Princess Horqin was originally the Fujin of Horqin Belle Manggus, who was the father of Empress Xiaoduanwen, and Princess Horqin was the biological mother of Empress Xiaoduanwen, so borjigit (Xiao Yu'er) was Empress Xiaoduanwen's half-sister, that is, Empress Xiaozhuang's aunt.
After Manggus's death, the Horqin princess remarried to Manggus's grandson Sonom in accordance with Mongolian custom, and then gave birth to the Borzigit clan, who was the brother of Empress Xiaozhuang, that is, borzigit was also the niece of Empress Xiaozhuang.
The reason for this dramatic relationship is that The mother of the Borzigit clan, Princess Korqin, remarried her grandson Sonom. (Note: Princess Korqin is not related to Sonom)
Secondly, borjigit also had a younger sister, who was originally Fujin of Haoge the Prince of Su, who remarried to Dorgon in the seventh year of Shunzhi and became The fifth wife of Dorgon Fujin.
In addition to these two Fujin, Dorgon had about eight or nine Fujin, but only one of them bore a child for Dorgon, and she was the daughter of Lee Se-seok of the Joseon Dynasty, who bore a daughter for Dorgon in the third year of Chongdeok (1638) and named Donggo.
In the eighth year of Shunzhi, Shunzhi, who had just been in power, liquidated Dorgon, not only pursuing all his knighthoods, but even committing a resentful act of destroying the tomb and exhuming the body. At the same time, Dorgon's daughter Dongguo and her adopted son Dolbo (son of Duoduo the Prince of Yu) were also affected, and the two siblings were handed over by Shunzhi to the custody of Doni the Prince of Xinjun (the second son of Duoduo the Prince of Yu), which is the only record left by Donggu in the historical records, after which Dongguo disappeared into the long river of history, and no one knows her ending.
There is a saying that DongGuo could not bear the bullying, went into exile, and married a Han Chinese reader. On closer analysis, this possibility is almost zero, because although Dorgon was convicted, Donggu was not stripped of his clan and therefore could not have been exiled.
However, at that time, Dongguo had reached the age of marriage, and Shunzhi would not let this cousin stay under his eyes at all, the only possibility was to marry her elsewhere, then the most likely was Mongolia.
The Qing Dynasty has insisted on Manchu-Mongolian marriage since the founding of the country, and there is a Princess Kejing Palace in modern Hohhot, which, according to the "Princess House Chronicle", once lived here by a great-granddaughter of Dorgon, that is, the descendants of Dongguo, so it is likely that Donggu was married to Mongolia.
