When Zhao Erxun heard that Guo Songling had come from Sichuan, he immediately told his younger brother Zhao Erfeng that Guo Songling was his younger brother's subordinate, and immediately released Guo Songling, and it was Han Shuxiu's bravery that allowed Guo Songling to save his life.
After this incident, Guo Songling and Han Shuxiu had a deeper relationship, and in the same year, the 21-year-old Han Shuxiu married the 28-year-old Guo Songling.
Soon after the new marriage, Guo Songling went to the Chinese Army University for further study, in 1917, he defected to Sun Yat-sen, serving as an instructor in Shaoguan Daowutang and other positions, after the failure of the National Defense Movement, Guo Songling returned to the northeast and successively served as a tactical instructor of Daowutang under Zhang Zuolin, the commander of the Second Regiment, and the brigade commander of the Eighth Brigade.
