Local police said that at about 1:30 p.m. on the 12th, when retired nurse Cui Yingji was walking on the streets of Forest Hills in New York City, an attacker suddenly pushed her from behind without a word and then fled the scene.

Choi Young-hee's face hit the ground and bled profusely when she fell, and she was then taken to a hospital for treatment of her face and neck injuries, and her left eye is still swollen and unable to open.

In an interview with New York media, Ms. Choi said she didn't know why someone had attacked her. Losing consciousness after being pushed down, she can't remember exactly what happened at the time of the attack.

Choi also said she could not determine whether the attack was racially motivated and that so far police had not classified the case as a biased crime.

In 2021, there was a marked increase in hate crimes across New York, with more than 500 hate crimes in the year, a significant increase, with the largest increase in hate crimes against Asians by ethnicity.
