Magic Leap announces Magic Leap 2's first medical health partners

The four healthcare technology companies will be able to get a head start on the device and provide feedback on domain-specific use cases to help the team complete the final device development.

Magic Leap has announced the establishment of a healthcare technology enterprise early access program for Magic Leap 2, and the first companies to join include SentIA, SyncThink, Heru and Brainlab.

It is reported that the Magic Leap 2 device, originally released in 2021, is scheduled to be officially commercialized in mid-2022, and the above-mentioned medical and health technology partners will be able to pre-experience the device and provide feedback suggestions for specific domain use cases, thus helping the team to complete the development of the Magic Leap 2 platform solution.

As for the field of view, Magic Leap did not announce the specific parameters of magic Leap 2, but released a FOV comparison chart and said that the field of view was doubled. Through comparative calculations, the horizontal field of view of Magic Leap 2 is about 45 degrees, the vertical field of view is about 53 degrees, and the diagonal field of view is about 70 degrees.

As a reference, the Magic Leap 1 was officially released in August 2018 for $2295, with a horizontal field of view of 40 degrees, a vertical field of view of 30 degrees, a diagonal field of view of 50 degrees, and a weight of 316 grams.

It is worth mentioning that the Magic Leap 2 will include a new "segmented dimming" technology, which will make the device more suitable for bright environments, such as operating room environments.
