As we all know, the People's Liberation Army had four major field armies in the middle and late periods of the Liberation War: the Northwest Field Army (First Field Army), the Central Plains Field Army (Second Field Army), the East China Field Army (Third Field Army), and the Northeast Field Army (Fourth Field Army). The establishment was not abolished until after the founding of New China.

However, in the impression of many people, the People's Liberation Army seems to have a "North China Field Army" during the Liberation War. However, in fact, during the Liberation War, the People's Liberation Army only had the North China Military Region and the three major mobile corps in North China, and there was no "North China Field Army." So why did the PLA troops not have the "North China Field Army"?
After the end of the defensive phase of the Liberation War, the national battlefield basically formed five major theaters of war in the northwest, the central plains, east China, northeast China, and north China. In order to meet the needs of the development of the situation in the War of Liberation, the Central Committee decided to reorganize the main platters of the People's Liberation Army throughout the country into field armies, military regions, and mobile corps.
By the time it was decided to form a field army in the Grand Strategic Region, the central leading organs had already been moved from northern Shaanxi to northern China. Therefore, the main force of the People's Liberation Army in North China was under the direct leadership of the Central Military Commission, and at that time, there was no plan to hold a major campaign in North China, and there was no need to establish a separate "North China Field Army".
In addition, at that time, the strategic positioning of the Central Committee for the North China Troops was the general reserve of other theaters of the People's Liberation Army, and there was no need to form a separate field army. Because of this, the Central Committee organized the North China Troops into several field mobile corps directly under the HEADQUARTERS of the People's Liberation Army until the end of the victorious Liberation War.
