Wang Zhanshan was unfortunately arrested by the Kuomintang army in a battle at the age of 17, and although he was severely tortured, he did not betray his comrades and was sent to the guillotine. As the executioner raised his butcher's knife high, suddenly a gunshot rang out and the executioner slammed into him.
It turned out that the comrades-in-arms had not given up their efforts to rescue him, and although the number of comrades-in-arms was small, they hit the enemy with a surprise attack. Taking advantage of the chaos, although his hands were firmly tied, Wang Zhanshan still rolled eighteen times on the spot, rolling from the high platform to the next crop field. Although this action was ugly, it was very useful and allowed him to escape.
War correspondent Li Feng also told this little story in his book "Decisive Battle of Korea". Mr. Wang Zhanshan is 93 years old, and every time he mentions this matter, he will say that without the party's rescue, I am afraid that I would not be where I am today, and Wang Zhanshan has always hung up the kindness of repaying the party in his heart.
Wang Zhanshan, who is already 74 years old in the party, has made outstanding achievements in the southern conquest and northern warfare of the troops, participated in no less than 40 large and small battles, and is a true warrior of hundred battles. He had a decades-old yellowed photograph of the Golden City counterattack.
In July 1953, the Jincheng Counterattack began, and Wang Zhanshan was the platoon leader of the third battalion, seven companies, and three platoons of the 404th Regiment of the 54th Army. All the warriors were very excited, and they wrote down a petition to be the main force. Wang Zhanshan received orders to consolidate their positions and block the enemy's attack on the high ground of 408.1.
War correspondent Li Feng said sarcastically in "Decisive Battle of Korea": The South Korean army fights a war in this set, first the aircraft artillery takes the lead, then the infantry charges, after we fight down, then the aircraft artillery bombards, and then the infantry charges, and there is no other trick to turn over and over.
But after all, the enemy's attack was too fierce, the battle lasted for 2 days, Wang Zhanshan's company position was only one cadre plus 76 soldiers, the company instructor was hit by three bullets, before the sacrifice pointed to the other soldiers and said: I handed over this company to you.
Although the volunteer soldiers had repelled more than twenty enemy attacks, by this time the ammunition had been basically exhausted, and the remaining fighters were almost all wounded. At this critical moment, Wang Zhanshan and the soldiers stood by the body of the instructor and swore an oath: People are in the position, we will never take a step back, and resolutely guard the high ground.
Wang Zhanshan and the 76 fighters persisted on the high ground for four days and four nights, eating wild vegetables when they did not eat, and fighting bayonets when they were not supplied with guns and ammunition. It was with their tenacious will that they repelled the enemy's attack 38 times, and more than four hundred enemies fell in front of their positions.
When the brother troops came to take over the defense, there were only ten soldiers left on the position, and Wang Zhanshan himself was already seriously wounded, and he was unable to speak after being carried off the battlefield. After lying in the hospital for four days and four nights, he was lucky enough to retrieve a life, and now there is not a single piece of shrapnel on the back of his head that has not been removed.
After the battle, Wang Zhanshan was awarded the first class meritorious service and was cordially received by the party and state leaders. Now Wang Zhanshan's body was still very strong. Whenever he recalled the bloody battles of that year, he always said: I can still move now, and I hope to go to the cemetery to see those old comrades-in-arms and talk to them about my heart.
