The iPhone phone initially used the Intel baseband, but the signal performance has been poor, followed by a mixture of Intel and Qualcomm baseband, and the iPhone 12 series of the entire series of Qualcomm baseband, but the signal problem has not been well solved. The iPhone tried to use a self-developed chip, on the one hand, to try to solve the signal problem by itself, and on the other hand, to avoid Qualcomm's patent fees. It is understood that the self-developed RF IC used by the iPhone 15 will use TSMC's 7nm process, and the 5G baseband chip will use TSMC's 5nm process.
However, the iPhone 14 series, which will be released in September this year, will be equipped with Samsung's 4nm process qualcomm 5G data machine chip X65 and RF IC, with Apple's A16 application processor, which may be the last time Apple uses a third-party baseband chip product.
