Once, he led a group of militia to tear down 18 rooms of the Dingfeng Company overnight and transported the timber away, so that the enemy could not set up a stronghold here. On another occasion, disguised as a mourner, he rushed into the home of a traitor, tied him up, dragged him half a mile from the stronghold, and executed him. In 1945, with the concentrated attack of the enemy, Zhang Jian's anti-Japanese operation became extremely difficult, but he still insisted on leading the militia detachment to continuously destroy the enemy's stronghold. Later, the Mingli Hall used for Zhang Jian's memorial service is now renamed "Martyrs' Memorial Hall", and his Dingwan Township has also become "Martyrs' Township".
