China Academy of Art (English name China Academy of Art, GB code 10355), formerly known as the National Academy of Arts, founded in 1928, is now a university jointly established by the People's Government of Zhejiang Province, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, and the national "double-first-class" construction university, and the discipline of fine arts has been selected as the "world-class discipline construction discipline". In the fourth round of discipline evaluation of national colleges and universities, fine arts and design were rated A+, and art theory, drama and film and television were awarded A-, B+, and the comprehensive level of disciplines ranked first among art colleges in China. The School of Arts and Humanities of China Academy of Art has a deep academic background, a gathering of famous teachers, talents and lofty status. In 1980 and 1984, it became the first batch of master's and doctoral degree awarding units in China; in 1987, it recruited the first undergraduate students in history; in 2008, it was awarded the key humanities and social science base in Zhejiang Province; in 2011, it was awarded the doctoral degree in the first-level discipline of art; and in 2016, it was awarded the "13th Five-Year Plan" special professional construction project of Zhejiang Province. The school's art theory research status is lofty, and in 2015, it was rated as a first-class discipline in Zhejiang Province, and ranked among the top in the national subject evaluation issued by the Ministry of Education in 2017, ranking A-, which is in the top 6%. In 2019, the art history major took the lead in being rated as a national-level first-class undergraduate major construction point. At present, the college has a wealth of talents training at various levels such as bachelor's degree, master's degree, doctoral degree, postdoctoral training, and visiting scholars in art history, which is not only an important town for international art history research, but also takes the continuous promotion of Chinese art research as its own responsibility, and is the construction highland of "art intellectuality and new humanistic education" in contemporary China.
The undergraduate major of "Art History Theory" of China Academy of Art focuses on the study of art history theory, adheres to the academic concept that art history is the pillar of the entire humanities discipline, pays attention to the cultivation of humanistic values, and strengthens the study of art history history by building a training program based on the study of Chinese and foreign art history, and opens up a new pattern of visual culture and humanities. This major always emphasizes the academic proposition of "artistic intelligence and new humanistic education", takes classic works and classic documents as the door of governance, and cultivates senior professionals with the academic qualities of "character and learning, art and science, ancient and modern, and Chinese and foreign".

At the beginning of the establishment of the school in 1928, the college opened systematic art courses such as aesthetics, art history, and art theory, and emerged famous historians such as Lin Wenzheng, Zheng Wuchang, Jiang Danshu, and Li Puyuan. In 1938, as the first Chinese to receive professional training in art history in the West and obtain a doctorate in philosophy, Mr. Teng Gu served as the president of the National Art College and the director of the Academic Affairs Office, taking the lead in establishing the concept of "art science" in China, laying an educational foundation for China's art history, art theory and aesthetic research. Since then, a large number of historians such as Shi Yan, Lu Hongji, Zhu Jinlou, Yan Mohan, Wang Bomin, Qian Jingchang, Zhu Boxiong, Tan Yongtai, and Yang Chengyin have emerged in the academy. Since the 1980s, the School has successively proposed academic concepts and ideas such as "Art History as a Humanities", "History of Image Evidence", "Art as an Intellectual Model", and "Scholarship as a Social Energy", which have had a profound impact on the field of art theory and the humanities. At the same time, the School rebuilt the "Gombrich Academic Forum" and the "Pan Tianshou Academic Forum", aiming to establish a research pattern of one China, one West, And East and West, establish a world-class academic community for art and cultural research, and create two high-end exchange platforms for international academic research. These two lectures are not exclusively designed for the study of Pan Tianshou and Gombrich, nor are they just for commemoration, but their main purpose is to present the latest research achievements in the fields of art history, cultural history, art psychology, visual culture, international sinology and Chinese painting in the world with a rigorous academic attitude, an open academic mind and an international academic vision, and promote experimental thinking and research in these fields. Charles Hope, Sir Nicolas Penny, Peter Mack, John Onians, Jon Whiteley, Martin Powers, Lothar Ledderose, and Craig Clunas], Professor Jessica Rawson, Professor Bill Sherman and a large number of scholars with international academic status have successively lectured, which has become a major event in the international academic exchanges of our institute and attracted great attention from the entire academic community.

The teaching and research of the School has always been based on the classic achievements of ancient and modern China and foreign countries, and strives to face the contemporary construction of the theoretical system of Chinese art. On the basis of classic disciplines, we will open up new professional fields, including visual culture research, art administration and planning, art creation theory, etc., which are the earliest in China. On the one hand, this discipline continues to strengthen the research of art historiography and conceptual history, and maintains close academic cooperation with many universities, art museums and research institutions at home and abroad, aiming to create an independent methodology system of modern Chinese art historiography; on the other hand, based on China's unique naturalism, epigraphy and philology, it reorganizes the classical vein of Chinese art research and explores its active genes. The Faculty's postgraduate curriculum framework system
The "Art History Theory" major of the college is a national first-class undergraduate major construction point, with four directions: art history and historical theory, visual culture research, archaeology and museology, and art administration and planning. In 2022, students will be enrolled in two directions: art history and historical theory, and visual culture research. Theoretical directions in art history and historiography
Our institute is one of the earliest universities in China to establish a major in art history, and it is also the earliest university in China to recruit graduate students majoring in art history. This direction combines Chinese and foreign art history with art theory, focuses on the perspectives of form, style, concept, taste, history, society, etc., systematically translates or intensively reads the classics of world art history, grasps the resources of art history theory, enhances disciplinary understanding and theoretical awareness, and strives to return to the classical academic character characterized by humanistic spirit under the modern vision. At the same time, this direction aims to guide students to understand and grasp the important artistic concepts and different exploration methods in history: through reading the ancient and modern Chinese and foreign classics, guide students to grasp the essence of the discipline, cultivate problem awareness, constantly test the way predecessors and themselves think and write the history of visual art, excavate classical wisdom, face the historical scene of Chinese art, creatively integrate ancient and modern Chinese and foreign classic academic resources, provide new ideological and methodological dimensions for enriching world art research, and then construct new thinking with "artistic intelligence" as the core , New Creation Theory, New Critical Theory.

Research direction of visual culture
As early as the 1990s, the China Academy of Art took the lead in initiating a series of discussions on the "visual turn" of contemporary scholarship, formed an important document on the study of visual culture in China, and began to recruit doctoral and master students in the field of visual culture research in China, and carried out related research projects. In 2003, the School established the Center for The Study of Exhibition Culture, which opened a series of artistic activities and academic discussions with international and domestic influence. In 2007, the School of Arts and Humanities was established, and it was the first in China to recruit undergraduate students in the direction of visual culture. Visual culture research emphasizes the academic trend of academic thought that includes all human visual products in the field of ideological and theoretical resources such as art history and cultural history, literary criticism and cultural studies, critical theory and critical media theory. Its purpose is to enable students to master the code of reading the form of human visual creation and the method of creating value, prevent the generalization or vulgar interpretation of images in the technological era, and maintain the openness of artistic creation and academic production.

Archaeology and Museology
The visual study of ancient relics and cross-cultural reading constitute the basic approach of archaeology. In the first half of the 20th century, in order to develop China's archaeology and art history, the Academia Sinica of the National Government set up an academician seat of "Archaeology and Art History", and then Chinese scholars put forward the concept of "art archaeology", trying to combine the history of antiquities with aesthetic research, which implied that researchers tried to start from the perspective of art history and regard the historical aesthetic value of antiquities as an important part of archaeology itself. Archaeology and museology is a discipline directly related to the protection of national cultural heritage, cultural innovation and cultural industry, and this direction is based on traditional epigraphy and fine art museology, and is committed to cultivating composite talents in cultural heritage research and management, museum exhibition, planning, design and other aspects. Epigraphy is a culmination between scholarship and art, and is also an integral part of The History of Chinese Art. The museum major not only teaches the academic principles of classical art history, but also faces the public humanities education of the new era, aiming to cultivate graduates who adapt to the development of urban civilization and the needs of national cultural strategy.

Artistic administration and planning direction
Since the new century, concepts such as production, mechanism, media, imitation, scene, discourse, and ideology have together formed a new vision for discussing art and visual issues. Thus, from technological development to the age of images, from post-colonialism to cultural pluralism, from the avant-garde movement to the ideals of the Free University, from the art market to public culture, from media change to social critique... This multiplicity of new questions constitutes the contemporary situation of art research. Art planning and administration is a discipline that emphasizes practice and criticism, that is, an operational discipline that combines cultural policy, sociology, museology, art history, communication and management, and economics; at the same time, this direction attaches great importance to the research and practice of modern and contemporary art criticism, emphasizing creative theoretical writing and action in specific artistic creation and contemporary display. All practical operations contain theory, and it is necessary to cultivate the comprehensive humanistic literacy of graduate students in this direction, and understand and adhere to the creativity and aesthetic value of art in practice. This direction is guided by this core value to cultivate contemporary comprehensive talents who have both academic ideas and planning and management capabilities.
