A unique costume show

"In Guangdong" presents the magnificence of Lingnan art

Mao Lingwen, director of the Guangdong Provincial Cultural Center and director of the Guangdong Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection Center, said in his speech at the opening ceremony that the "In Guangdong" cultural activity is a brand-new plan launched by the Provincial Cultural Center this year, with the theme of "Cantonese Color and Fragrance in Guangdong", paying attention to the growth of local culture, inviting literary and artistic celebrities to participate together, and presenting the magnificence of Lingnan art and the exquisite holding of life aesthetics to the public through the on-site display and sharing exchange of music, painting, food and clothing.

Based on the traditional costume skills of Lingnan, this issue selects Xiangyun yarn and Guangdong embroidery with unique Lingnan characteristics as the protagonists of the exhibition, and specially invites Qu Tingnan, winner of the UNESCO "21st Century Design Award", director of the Lingnan Costume Museum of Guangdong University of Technology, and cross-border artist Qu Tingnan to hold the "Xiangyun Splendid Embroidery - Qu TingNannan Intangible Cultural Heritage Works Exhibition".

The exhibition exhibits the costumes collected and designed by Qu Tingnan in recent years, with Xiangyun yarn and Guang embroidery as the design elements. Through the exhibition, the public can appreciate how Qu Tingnan integrates Lingnan Intangible Cultural Heritage into fashion design through his own creativity and design, presents an oriental aesthetic lifestyle, and forms a vivid cultural landscape at present.

Xiangyun yarn combined with Guang embroidery won the grand prize

A traditional Xiangyun yarn finished product needs to be soaked in water, sunbathing, sprinkling water, sealing water, passing wu, washing, fog and other processes, the so-called "three steaming, nine boiling and eighteen sun", its production process is extremely difficult. As one of the four famous embroideries in China, Guangdong embroidery embodies the wisdom of successive generations of craftsmen on every stitch and line, and is full of Lingnan characteristics from artistic style to creative thinking.

After more than twenty years in the industry, Qu Tingnan often pondered: "What do we show our children and grandchildren?" The same question was the subject of the 1999 UNESCO Design Competition. In this design competition, Qu Tingnan won two awards, the "World Folk Culture Award" issued by UNESCO and the "21st Century Design Award" issued by France, for his costume works combining Xiangyun yarn and Guangdong embroidery.

Qu Tingnan's embroidery work "Landscape"

The more than 20 costume works exhibited in this exhibition are designed and produced by Qu Tingnan. The embroidery work "Landscape", which embodies Qu Tingnan's 8 months of painstaking efforts, has made many viewers stop and watch carefully. The work uses a unique stitching method to restore the traces of brush and ink in ink paintings. Qu Tingnan introduced that even Su embroidery stopped at the "nothingness" of expressing ink painting, "only Guang embroidery can use the continuous and auxiliary dispersion of Mao Zhen to express the flow of ink to the fullest, illusory or not." ”

The work "Lily", which expresses the backlit photographic flowers, fully demonstrates the charm of the flat and short needle stitch method of wide embroidery. Qu Tingnan introduced that this work was jointly cooperated by a number of embroidery girls and took half a year to complete, "The work presents the subtle vision of flower light and shadow, and also shows the infinite expressiveness of extensive embroidery." ”

The costume show showcases the charm of traditional intangible cultural heritage

"Falling flowers cover the sky with moonlight..." A gentle Cantonese opera singing section ignited the atmosphere of the opening ceremony of the exhibition. Two students of Zeng Xiaomin, the director of The Guangdong Cantonese Theatre, vividly interpreted the classic fragments of cantonese opera "Emperor Girl Flower". Zeng Xiaomin has cooperated with Qu Tingnan to promote the integration of Cantonese opera and fashion clothing, and achieve a breakthrough in cantonese opera stage display. "Wearing the clothes he designed made me feel like I was really wearing 'Cantonese opera' on my body." Zeng Xiaomin commented so.
