In October 1944, Corporal Georges Brande, a corporal of the French fire brigade and a member of the underground resistance, smiled at the guns of the German firing squad. In fact, Brown did not die in this "shooting", but was killed two months later in the infamous Auschwitz concentration camp.

The execution was actually a carefully arranged fake shooting, with the purpose of psychological torture of the victims, so that they succumbed to pressure to confess secrets. George Brande was put to the test and was sent to Dachau and then to Auschwitz, where he was killed on 4 December.

The Germans placed their victims in the corners of their houses so that they could avoid rebounding bullets from hurting the executioners, which demonstrated their high professionalism.

At Zhang Xuesen's home, the members of the art troupe performed cross-talk and sketches for Zhang Xueliang, of which Huang Hong performed the sketch "Telephone Leak". When Zhang Xueliang knew that Huang Hong was from the northeast, he talked about the streets and snacks in Shenyang. It is said that Huang Hong invited Zhang Xueliang back to his hometown to see, but Zhang Xueliang did not answer.

Before parting, Huang Hong took out a piece of paper and pleaded with Zhang Xueliang to write a few words, and Zhang Xueliang neatly wrote the three words "Zhang Xueliang" in the corner of the paper, and then said: "My eyes are not very good, I will just write my name." The rest of the words, you will write for me. ”

A few months later, Zhang Xueliang left Taiwan and flew to Hawaii to settle down.

At the beginning of the 20th century, the mascot of the Michelin tire was played by a real person on the street to carry out sales activities. This is as ugly as an alien, are you sure it won't scare people?

The Michelin mascot is called bibendum, commonly known as the rice fat man, and its image is composed of tires of different diameters and sizes. It is said that one day in 1894, Edouard, one of the founders of Michelin Tires, discovered that a pile of tires stacked together resembled the image of a man without a weapon, and the Michelin mascot came into being. In April 1898, the first mascot poster was introduced. Between 1894 and 1898, Michelin's tire business flourished as anthropomorphic concepts gained popularity and sales of bicycles and cars grew.

In 1888, the Michelin brothers invented the pneumatic (inflatable) tire, which until then was made of hard solid rubber. In 2018, Michelin's brand value reached $7.93 billion.

Lü Chaoran (1926–2014), Chinese-American, was the first non-white officer in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was awarded the Naval Cross for his performance in the Korean War.

Looking for American information, you can find Lu Chaoran's detailed records. Lu Chaoran was born in San Francisco in 1926 to Cantonese parents. In 1944, at the age of 18, Lu joined the U.S. Marine Corps. He was assigned to study Japanese, act as an interpreter, and earn the rank of second lieutenant. In 1950, Lü Chaoran joined the B Company of the 7th Regiment and the 1st Battalion of the 1st Marine Division as a platoon commander, participating in the Inchon Landing Campaign, and subsequently participating in the Battle of Chosin Lake.

Because of Lü Chaoran's Chinese appearance, the U.S. military feared that he would be mistakenly attacked, so it asked him to wear red clothes to distinguish him from the volunteers and North Korean soldiers on the other side.

At the end of November 1950, the Battle of Chosin Lake began. At that time, the US First Marine Division thought that it was only facing the 124th Division of the 42nd Army of the Volunteer Army, but in fact the Volunteer Army had already taken over the 124th Division from the Ninth Corps, and the total strength of the Ninth Corps was about 150,000 people.

The 1st Marine Division, which was reorganized with about 25,000 people, originally wanted to gather and annihilate the 124th Division of the Volunteer Army, but it turned out to be a reunion of nine soldiers of the Volunteer Army to annihilate the 1st Marine Division. The Volunteer Army launched several attacks, dividing the First Marine Division into four places: Liutanli, Xinxingli, Xiajieli, and Gutuli. At that time, the temperature had reached minus 40 degrees, and it was snowing heavily, which was extremely unfavorable to both the attacking and defending sides.

On November 2, during the breakout in Hagaru-ri, Lü Chaoran's first battalion was ambushed by volunteer troops, and Lü Chaoran shouted in Chinese: "Don't fire, I am Chinese." The firing stopped on the other side, and the Americans took the opportunity to fire and repelled the volunteer attack. After that, the 500 men of the second battalion were surrounded by volunteers, and Lü Chaoran led his men to the rescue, and successfully broke through after meeting with the second battalion.

There are two sources in the United States that document this incident. On November 8, Lü Chaoran was wounded in a battle, then sent to Japan for medical treatment, and returned to the United States after recovering from his wounds. He also fought in the Vietnam War from 1965 to 1966.

For his outstanding performance on the battlefield, Lü Chaoran was awarded the Naval Cross. He also has a brother, Lu Chaomang, who is 1 year younger than him, who served in the U.S. Army and also made military achievements in the Korean War. Later, Lü Chaoran retired from the First Marine Division.

In the Battle of Chosin Lake, the U.S. 1st Marine Division lost 604 casualties, 114 were seriously wounded, 192 were missing, 3,508 were wounded, and 7,313 were wounded outside the battle, including frostbite.

In the 1920s, in Beijing, paper carts were burned at funerals. China only imported cars in 1901, which was an absolute luxury at the time, and the children and grandchildren burned to the dead family at funerals represented a kind of filial piety and magnanimity.

Although the process of Chinese funeral is complicated, its essence is that the protagonist of the funeral is never the deceased, it focuses more on expressing the wealth, status and luxury of the living, only in this way can the face of the deceased be preserved and the good name of the living be spread. Filial piety has been detached from the act of affection, and it is an expression of the merits of future generations.

Torture in the late Qing Dynasty "half-empty horse step". The man in the picture is not a real prisoner, but a photographer who demonstrates the punishment.

This punishment is to let the prisoner crouch on a wooden ladder, the upper body is stuck in the wooden frame, the feet are stepped on the wooden support, and the hands and feet are tied, forming a squatting posture, so it is called "half-empty horse step". The prisoner's upper body cannot move, the lower body cannot stand upright on the knees, and it is very painful to maintain this position for a long time.

The demonstrator was not a prisoner, so his hands and feet were not fastened with ropes or iron cables. But even then, it seems to cause serious discomfort.
