According to the data, The production of cars and light commercial vehicles in Brazil in 2021 will be 2.07 million units, an increase of 8.7% over 2020. Truck production increased by 74.6% y/y to 158,800 units. Passenger car production was 18,800 units, up 2.6% year-on-year.

In terms of employment, the number of people employed in Brazil's automobile manufacturing industry in 2021 was 101,000, down 0.2% from 2020.

The data also shows that in December 2021, Brazil's automobile production was 210,800 units, an increase of 2.5% month-on-month and 0.8% year-on-year. Among them, the production of sedans and light commercial vehicles was 197,100 units, an increase of 3.9% month-on-month and a decrease of 0.4% year-on-year. Truck production was 12,300 units, down 13.8% sequentially and 18.2% year-on-year. Passenger car production was 1,429 units, down 9.7% m/m and up 41.6% yoY.

At the same time, automobile exports showed a good trend. In 2021, Brazil exported 376,300 vehicles, an increase of 16% over 2020. Among them, 41,500 units were exported in December 2021, an increase of 48.4% month-on-month and an increase of 8.3% year-on-year.

Luiz Moraes, president of the Brazilian Automobile Manufacturers Association, said that since 2021, the Brazilian automobile production industry has overcome the impact of the new crown pneumonia epidemic and comprehensively promoted the resumption of work and production, which has promoted the recovery of Brazil's automobile manufacturing industry, and the country's automobile export market has gradually recovered, and it is expected that Brazilian automobile production will reach 2.46 million units in 2022, an increase of 9.4%.
