Painter Profile
Pan Xiaodong is a second-level professor and doctoral supervisor of Xi'an Academy of Fine Arts, and the director of the Oil Painting Art Research Center in Western China. Professor and master supervisor of the School of Design and Art of Xijing University, Distinguished Professor and Master Supervisor of Yunnan University. He is a member of the China Artists Association, a director of the China Oil Painting Society, the vice president of the Shaanxi Oil Painting Society, a member of the Art Committee of the Shaanxi Artists Association, and a thesis review expert of the Degree Center of the Ministry of Education. After graduating from xi'an Academy of Fine Arts in 1979, he stayed on to teach, and received a master's degree in 1988. From 2000 to 2014, he was the director of the Oil Painting Department of Xi'an Academy of Fine Arts. He studied in the Oil Painting Department of the Central Academy of Fine Arts and the "Russian Painting Master Melnikov Oil Painting Workshop". Member of the 10th CPPCC National Committee of Shaanxi Province.
His works have been selected for the 8th, 9th, 10th and 11th National Art Exhibitions, the "3rd China Oil Painting Exhibition Boutique Exhibition" and other major exhibitions at home and abroad. He won the "Chinese Art Exhibition" and the "Northwest Five Provinces Art Exhibition" Excellence Award of the Ministry of Culture. Hundreds of works and more than 30 professional papers have been published in People's Daily, Fine Arts, Fine Arts Research, etc. Seventeen personal albums and monographs have been published. The "Oil Painting Landscape Sketching" excellent class of "Oil Painting Landscape Sketching" was rated as a provincial excellent course by the Shaanxi Provincial Department of Education, and served as the host of the Shaanxi Provincial Education Department's scientific research project "Oil Painting Landscape Technique Research" and the Shaanxi Provincial Social Science "Oil Painting Art Research in Western China".

Xi'an people are fighting the epidemic

In Xi'an at the end of 2021 and the beginning of 2022, the sudden outbreak of the new crown pneumonia epidemic, through the introduction of emergency epidemic prevention plans by the relevant departments of provinces and cities, and the positive response of citizens at all levels, no citizen of Xi'an has been able to stay out of the matter during this period. From the city's sealing and control to the school family home where I live, a number of strict prevention and control measures have been adopted.
We who are sealed in high-rise buildings pay attention to the development of the epidemic situation and the progress of the anti-epidemic work in the whole city all day, and we want to record our personal experience and witness through our own brushes and learn all aspects of Xi'an's anti-epidemic work through various channels. I hope that our paintings can play a role in inspiring people's fighting spirit to fight the epidemic, and also fulfill our responsibilities.
Art for the people is the key word, painting can express and record the major events of our time, express the people's thoughts, deeds, needs. During the ten days of campus closure, I created five Chinese paintings with the theme of Xi'an people fighting the epidemic.
First of all, in determining the theme of painting creation, it is necessary to carry forward the main theme, express the spirit of Chinese full of wisdom and continuous struggle, the tenacious spirit of struggle of Shaanxi people, and the spirit of unity of Xi'an people against the epidemic.
Secondly, in terms of artistic conception, it adopts a multi-perspective approach, and through the materials collected by themselves and provided by friends, hopes to reflect the response of Xi'an citizens to cooperate with the work of governments at all levels in more aspects, and the anti-epidemic work and life under this call.
For example, the creation of "Rainy Night Battle epidemic for Chang'an" is mainly manifested in the night scene of the night rain, and there are also scenes of citizens with limited mobility who work hard to cooperate with medical personnel, which is also a vivid record of the real scene.
The painting "Overcome the Difficulties of the Times" shows the spiritual style of Xi'an volunteers, and the scene of hand-shouldered delivering food to the masses who are controlled in high-rise buildings under the difficult conditions of no vehicles is really touching and grateful.
The group painting of "Xi'an People Fighting the Epidemic" adopts the concept of combining Chinese and Western paintings, such as the Chinese painting "Xi'an Chang'an!" In the creation of "" in the expression of the painting language, the composition adopts the way of interlacing time and space, and puts the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, a landmark building in Xi'an, into the background of the painting. The use of simple color of the picture, symbolizing the deep meaning of the noble white-clad warriors and like the red plum in the snow, the ink line outlines the shape of the character and the background part, the clump of pine in the snow forms a strong and weak contrast of the artistic effect, but also symbolizes the tenacity of the white guard spiritual connotation.
The performance of this group of Chinese paintings is that the painter depicts what he thinks and sees in his eyes in the near future through the brush in his hand, and it is also a manifestation of the will, determination and action of the citizens of Xi'an to unite against the epidemic and Xi'an to determine Chang'an.
