Another joint venture, Beijing Hyundai, has seen sales decline since the second half of 2017, leaving only one-third of its annual sales of more than 1 million units at its peak, and the company has also experienced large losses.
BAIC BJEV is the earliest car company in China to develop pure electric vehicles, and has won the domestic pure electric vehicle sales champion for 5 consecutive years. However, with the decline of subsidies and the transition of the new energy vehicle market to the marketization stage, BAIC BJEV has gradually lost its first-mover advantage. After the huge losses in 2020, the listed company Beiqi Blue Valley will continue to make huge losses in 2021.
In 2020, BAIC BJEV launched the high-end brand ARCFOX Jihu, which is the hope of baicchi group's independent sector. Polar Fox is currently selling two models, the Alpha T and the Alpha S, but the sales are not optimistic.
However, Jihu hopes to cooperate with Huawei to make up for its shortcomings in the field of intelligent driving technology, and released the Alpha S Huawei HI version (now renamed Alpha S new HI version) at the 2021 Shanghai Auto Show, with a price of nearly 400,000 yuan, originally planned to be delivered in December, but finally only achieved small-scale internal delivery, and the future prospects need to be tested by the market.
In addition, Foton's commercial vehicle business is developing well, which is the only bright spot in BAIC's autonomous sector, but Borgward's problems are unresolved, dragging down Foton's performance.
BAIC Group has been overly dependent on joint ventures for many years, and the development of its own sectors has been weak. During his tenure, former chairman Xu Heyi hoped to make a breakthrough in the autonomous sector by introducing Shenbao and taking the lead in independent new energy companies. At present, how to do a good job in the autonomous sector, the BAIC leadership team headed by Jiang Deyi still needs to break the key to the problem.
Of course, the importance of BAIC to the Beijing municipal government is self-evident, and in the past 20 years, BAIC has been the pillar of Beijing's automobile manufacturing industry. However, in 2021, Beijing Shunyi and Yizhuang have successively introduced ideal cars and millet projects. At the same time, Beijing is also actively helping a large number of autonomous driving companies to carry out tests. At the recently held 2022 Beijing Two Sessions, Beijing specifically mentioned that it is necessary to actively promote the start of Xiaomi automobile and the construction of ideal cars.
In the future, the development of Beijing's automobile industry will enter the stage of multi-brand joint promotion of industrial chain development, from this point of view, BAIC Group, as the largest state-owned enterprise in Beijing, bears more responsibilities while also shouldering greater pressure.
