Intel poached The chief chip designer of Apple's M1

As the 2-year transition period for Apple Mac computers from Intel to its own chips is coming to an end, Intel poaches the chief chip designer of apple M1.

Jeff Wilcox, Apple's Director of System Architecture for macs (former) announced on his LinkedIn page on Thursday (6 June) that he will leave Apple for Intel to take up his post as Intel Fellow and Technical Director (CTO) of Design Engineering, responsible for the design of all Intel client system mono-chip (SoC) architectures.

Wilcox has been Apple's Director of Mac System Architecture for the past 8 years, overseeing Mac system architecture, signal integrity, and power integrity, leading Apple's transition to Apple Silicon.

Wilcox wrote on its LinkedIn: "After a wonderful 8 years, I decided to leave Apple and seek another opportunity... I'm incredibly proud of all the results apples have achieved over the years, and the best of all is the transition to Apple Silicon through the launch of the M1, M1 Pro, and M1 Max SoCs and systems. I will miss all my Apple colleagues and friends very much."

In fact, this isn't the first time Wilcox has worked at Intel, where he worked as an engineer for Intel's PC chipsets from 2010 to 2013.

Wilcox said Thursday, "He is honored to be working with a fantastic team again to help build a groundbreaking SoC."

Apple's next director of Mac system architecture is still unknown, and it is not known whether Apple will comfort Wilcox. However, Apple has recently issued huge bonuses on a large scale to retain talent, and the amount of dividends is between $50,000 and $180,000.

Wall Street analysts said that in the past 2 years, Apple's Apple Silicon team has successively left some engineers, and it remains to be seen whether the departure of these people will have an impact on the progress of Apple's chips. However, under the leadership of Johny Srouji, senior vice president of Apple's hardware division, Apple's chip team has proven to be capable, and Apple is expected to continue the Apple Silicon transition this year to launch Mac computers with M2 chips.
