A large tomb from the Southern and Northern Dynasties to the Sui and Tang dynasties was found in Beihai

Recently, the reporter learned from the Beihai Cultural Relics Research Center that archaeologists found an ancient tomb group with a distribution area of about 70,000 square meters in the ancient city village committee of Fucheng Town, Yinhai District, and there were more than 200 cemeteries in the preliminary exploration. According to preliminary identification, the tomb dates from the Southern and Northern Dynasties to the Sui and Tang Dynasties.

According to reports, due to the long-term activities of local residents in the area such as leveling the land, digging pits and taking soil, building roads, and planting trees, the tomb area has been damaged to varying degrees. At present, nearly thirty tombs have been exposed to the ground, most of which have damaged the upper part of the burial chamber, leaving only the bottom of the tomb. Archaeologists have collected more relics in this burial area, and the type of pottery pots and bowls is complete, and the pottery pots are larger. Fragments of more utensils, such as the rim of the mouth, the ear of the vessel, and the abdominal piece, have also been found.

Liao Yuantian, director of the Beihai Museum, said: "The cultural relics collected next to the cemetery have obvious characteristics of the artifacts of the Southern and Northern Dynasties. ”

In order to further promote the declaration of the Beihai Maritime Silk Road as a world cultural heritage, find out the ancient cultural relics of the Coastal Area of the Beihai Sea, and clarify the historical and cultural context of the Beihai Region, since September 2017, the Beihai City Museum has organized professionals to conduct a systematic archaeological survey of the Beihai Coastal Area, and the tomb was found in this coastal archaeology. According to research, the construction method of the tomb is generally to use a kind of stone slab masonry chamber four walls called "grinding wheel piece" in the vertical cave burial chamber, which is rare in the Beihai region and even in Guangxi, and has high academic research value and historical research value.

Liao Yuantian, director of the Beihai Museum, said: "This discovery fills the gap, especially the gap in the Beihai and even guangxi types of cultural relics, which is a relatively important discovery, and the history and culture of our Beihai sea have further supplemented this information." ”
