After Princess Dong'e's death, the Shunzhi Emperor was disheartened, saw through the red dust, and had no attachment, so he abandoned Jiangshan and insisted on going to Mount Wutai to become a monk, and let the monk shave his hair for him. Later, because the Idea of the Dharma Master Yulin Xuan stimulated him, it was only because the Shunzhi Emperor dismissed the idea of renunciation.
In order to avoid the irrational Shunzhi from committing further acts of radicalism, Empress Xiaozhuang was forced to agree to posthumously appoint Dong Eshi as "Empress Xiaoduan". Shunzhi knew very well in his heart that Dong Eshi was not brought in from the Great Qing Gate, nor was he a mother who came up with a noble son, although he was a son of heaven, but he could not do anything about the strict feudal etiquette.
Dong E's death left the Shunzhi Emperor with endless mourning, and he was already weak and sick, and his body and mind were greatly damaged, and only half a year after Dong Efei's death, he had an incurable disease at that time - smallpox. After dictating the edict, the Shunzhi Emperor collapsed in the Yangxin Hall in the middle of the seventh night of the first lunar month and followed Aifei away at the age of twenty-four.
After the death of the Shunzhi Emperor, the body was cremated and buried in the second year of the Kangxi Dynasty with the Xiaoduan Empress Dong Eshi in the Xiaoling Tombs of the Qing Dynasty.
