Keanu Reeves is reportedly negotiating to star in Hulu's adaptation of the White City Demons series, which will be his first American lead role, adapted by Hulu from Eric Larson's 2003 novel The White City Demons, which will be produced by Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese.

The Devil of White City tells the story of two men, an architect and a serial killer, whose fates are intertwined by the 1893 Chicago World's Fair. The Devil of White City is based on Eric Larson's crime novel, based on Henry Howard Holmes, a real serial murderer in 19th-century America.

The film was originally scheduled to be directed and produced by Scorsese, starring and producing By Lee, but now the two are only determined to serve as executive producers of the TV series. Leonardo DiCaprio acquired the film rights to the book as early as 2010 and plans to adapt the story into a feature film in which he will play Sherlock Holmes, which was originally directed and produced by Scorsese. The project was later changed in 2019, announcing that it would be adapted into a TV series by Hulu, with Leonardo and Scorsese as executive producers. Scorsese has worked with DiCaprio on several films over the years, including Gangsters in New York, The Pilot, Infernal Walkers, Confinement Island, The Wolf of Wall Street, and The Flower Moon Killer.
