He made great contributions to the victory of the Chinese revolution and was an out-and-out patriotic general, but was later killed by Chiang Kai-shek. In 1993, a new grave was buried on the other side of General Yang Hucheng, and the tombstone read "Tomb of Zhang Huilan". General Yang Hucheng had three wives in his lifetime, namely Luo Peilan, Zhang Huilan and Xie Baozhen. They bore General Yang Hucheng four sons and six daughters. First of all, his first wife, Luo Peilan, because she followed Yang Hucheng's Northern Expedition in her early years, fell ill and her health has not been very good, so she died after giving birth.
The fate of the parents, the words of the matchmaker
Luo Lanpei and Xie Bao were Really Yang Hucheng's wives at two different times, and they appeared in many newspapers and magazines, so they were almost all household names. However, Zhang Huilan is little known, and this has made her a legend in her life. The story between the two of them should start from Yang Hucheng's youth.
Yang Hucheng was born in 1893 in Pucheng County, Shaanxi Province, to a poor family. At the age of 13, he worked as a child laborer at a small restaurant in Sun Town, more than 10 miles from the village. At the age of 15, his father, Yang Huaifu, was executed by the Qing government at the age of 44 after being framed by an enemy. His mother was not in good health for many years, and forced by the situation at that time, he led a group of poor peasants and became an anti-government "swordsman".
In Sun Town, there was a man named Zhang Yangqing, who was kind, and he and Yang's mother were still fellow villagers, and expressed deep sympathy and praise for Yang's encounters and behavior. Zhang Yangqing has another daughter named Zhang Huilan, so when Yang's mother is sick, Zhang Huilan often goes to take care of Yang's mother. However, the virtuous Zhang Huilan was deeply loved by Yang Mother, so Yang Mother matched the two together. In this way, the parents of both sides decided on this family affair.
Pay silently and show filial piety
Although Yang Hucheng and Zhang Huilan's marriage was arranged by the parents of both parties, Zhang Huilan was very kind to her husband Yang Hucheng, and their relationship was very harmonious. After marriage, she also had a son, and her husband fought outside for many years, so she took care of her mother-in-law and took care of the housework at home, silently paying never complained.
Because of Yang's achievements on the battlefield, the enemy was also frightened and always wanted to take Yang's family as hostages. Zhang Huilan took the family old and small east to hide in Tibet and suffered a lot. Moreover, Yang Hucheng's wife Luo Peilan has 2 children, plus Xie Baozhen's 4 children, plus her own 1 child. When there were seven children at that time, all the big and small things in the family were taken care of by Zhang Huilan alone. The degree of difficulty in life can be imagined how difficult it is!
The virtuous wife who made Yang Hucheng feel sad
Especially in order to take care of the children left behind by Fa Ma Luo, she put all her energy on this, so that she did not notice that her child was sick, resulting in the child being sick and eventually dying. She was greatly shocked and talked nonsense all day, and Yang Hucheng was well aware of his wife's pain and often felt guilty about it.
The night before Yang Hucheng was forced to go to Europe, Yang Hucheng knelt in front of Zhang Huilan and said with tears and gratitude: "Huilan, I am really sorry for you!" But Zhang Huilan sat in a chair and had a nervous breakdown, and she didn't even say a word of goodbye.
The blow of losing her son and husband at the same time broke her down. None of the children she cared for were his own, which showed how much pain Zhang Had suffered. Although Zhang Huilan lived a hard life, he never neglected his children. Fortunately, Yang Hucheng was posthumously honored as a martyr, and the Xi'an government gave a lot of help after learning about Zhang Huilan, which made Zhang Huilan breathe a sigh of relief.
In 1993, Zhang Huilan died of illness at the age of 90. According to her last wishes, her ashes were also buried next to General Yang Hucheng.
