But at this time, Lin Zexu was already dying of old age, no longer the heroic anti-smoking hero. Soon, Lin Zexu requested to return to his hometown due to illness, but the Qing court forcibly appointed him as a minister of Chincha to suppress the civil uprising of the Worship of God Society. Lin Zexu rushed to Guangxi, but died of illness on the way.
