Analyst Jeff Pu said at least one iPhone 15 model launched in 2023 will be equipped with a periscope camera system, which creates the conditions for increasing the multiple of optical zoom. With the periscope system, the light that enters the telephoto lens on the back of the iPhone will be reflected by a tilted mirror onto the camera's image sensor.
The change in the direction of light travel will allow Apple to install a longer telephoto device inside the iPhone, allowing users to zoom in further without creating any blur. Rumors about the iPhone getting a periscope lens have been circulating since the beginning of 2020, with the famous Tianfeng Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo being the first to mention the possibility. Kuo initially said that the periscope lens will be a feature of the iPhone 14 Pro, but now it seems that we will have to wait until next year's iPhone 15 Pro.

There are already some Android smartphones on the market with periscope lenses, including Samsung's Galaxy S21 Ultra and Huawei's P40 Pro+. Both devices have up to 10x optical zoom, and with the periscope lens, the iPhone 15 Pro could also follow suit. During this period, the iPhone 13 Pro model was limited to a 3x optical zoom.
