At first, it was decided that Deng Hua, the former commander-in-chief of the Volunteer Army, would take command, but he could not take office due to physical reasons.
Subsequently, it was changed to the command of two generals, Xu Shiyou and Yang Dezhi, Xu Shiyou was the commander-in-chief of the Eastern Front, and Yang Dezhi was the commander-in-chief of the Western Front, and the battle lasted for more than twenty days, one of which was particularly crucial, that is, the Battle of Lang Son, once Lang Son was laid, it would not be a problem to take the Capital of Vietnam.
Battle of Lang Shan
Vietnam's experience in modern times and China is similar, both suffered from colonial aggression, as a neighboring country that has suffered common hardships, after the founding of New China, it has established a deep friendship with Vietnam, and still insists on providing support to Vietnam in the face of China's economic difficulties.
For more than three decades, it provided great assistance to Vietnam to help Vietnam resist aggression, but after Le Son came to power, Vietnam's ambitions gradually expanded, and China suffered greatly from it, and finally decided to fight back in self-defense when it was intolerable.
Xu Shiyou, who was then the commander of the Guangzhou Military Region, immediately arrived in Nanning to make arrangements after receiving the order, and Xu Shiyou, the headquarters in Nanning, thought for a long time, in order to achieve a quick end to the battle, Xu Shiyou decided to use the "cattle knife to kill the chicken" and quickly occupy the strategic place of Langshan.
Three are missing one
The location of Lang Son is very special, its north-south length of about 5 kilometers, east-west width of about 3 kilometers, is a small basin terrain, is the northern gate of the Vietnamese capital Hanoi, the Vietnamese army in the Lang Son area of the regular army of more than 20,000 people, there are a large number of militia, coupled with the terrain is easy to defend and difficult to attack, the Vietnamese army is considered to be impregnable.
Such a defense was a pediatric in front of General Xu Shiyou, who had experienced hundreds of battles, and Xu Shiyou first ordered the 55th Army to clear the Vietnamese army in the highlands around Lang Son in three ways, and the 55th Army concentrated 21 artillery battalions and 276 large-caliber artillery pieces, which the Vietnamese army could not bear.
Finally, on the afternoon of the 27th, the large and small highlands around Lang Son were occupied, and the defense of the Vietnamese army was also adopted by our army, which was successfully divided, according to Xu Shiyou's plan, not to capture the position as the goal, but to eliminate the living forces of the Vietnamese army, so that it had no chance to fight back.
Xu Shiyou surrounded the vietnamese defenders on three sides, leaving a road for the Vietnamese army to rescue, when the main force of the Vietnamese army was in Cambodia, Xu Shiyou was to eliminate the elite main force of the Vietnamese army, our army's plan went very smoothly, but never expected that the Vietnamese army used other foreign stars to discover the trajectory of our army's operations.
In the end, with the help of high technology, the top level of the Vietnamese army saw through Xu Shiyou's plan, adopted the practice of abandoning the car to protect the marshal, did not carry out rescue, and seeing that it was impossible to destroy the enemy's living forces, Xu Shiyou ordered the occupation of Lang Son, and after our army occupied Lang Son, Hanoi suddenly fell into chaos.
Because under the Lang Shan is a horse Pingchuan, the capital Hanoi has no danger to defend, and the reinforcements do not dare to come to the rescue, it can be said that at this time to take Hanoi as a probe to get things, but in the end our army did not fight Hanoi, mainly based on three considerations.
Triumphant return
The first reason why our army did not fight in Hanoi was that the elite Vietnamese troops were still there at that time and had not been destroyed, which was a potential threat, and coupled with the fact that the enemy in Hanoi had already made a good defense, a hard fight was bound to cause casualties in our army, and in case of a stalemate, it would violate our army's original intention of returning fire.
The second reason is that our country's strength is not enough to attack Vietnam arbitrarily, the situation on the battlefield is changing rapidly, and it is wise to stop fighting when victory is achieved, and it is enough to achieve strategic intentions.
The third reason is that there are many foreign embassies in Hanoi, and once our army breaks into Hanoi, it will be misunderstood by some countries as aggression; in the international situation at that time, peace was the trend of the times, so it would be unfavorable for our country to continue fighting.
After receiving the retreat order, Xu Shiyou began to arrange for the withdrawal of the troops, did not expect that the Vietnamese army launched a sneak attack on the way of our army's retreat, and even used poison gas bombs, Xu Shiyou was angry and ordered the artillery to shell Langshan, "not a single house is allowed to stay", and more than two hundred cannons of the 55th Army opened fire at the same time.
At the same time, Xu Shiyou also ordered that the vietnamese economy be set back by at least a decade back when retreating, blowing up factories, blasting some military bases and strongholds, and destroying transportation facilities.
