In 1985, experts from the Tibet Autonomous Region Cultural Management Commission accidentally discovered the ruins of several temples during an inspection, thus discovering a dynasty that had mysteriously disappeared for 350 years.
In the middle of the ninth century, the mighty Tubo dynasty collapsed. Not to be outdone, the descendants of the Tubo royal family established a new local government, the Guge Dynasty, on the banks of the Xiangquan River in the present-day Ali zada Hiza district. Therefore, the regime was a continuation of the Tubo Dynasty. After several years of development, the Guge Dynasty gradually became stronger, and its territory in its heyday spread throughout Ali, and its territory reached more than 300,000 square kilometers. The Gurg dynasty lasted for 16 generations and ended its rule in the seventeenth century. However, the Guge dynasty mysteriously disappeared overnight more than 300 years ago, leaving only the ruins of the dynasty that once recorded its glory.
After experts discovered the ruins of the Guge Dynasty, they continued to investigate and excavated many carvings, statues, murals and other cultural relics, unveiling its mysterious veil. Among them, the largest number of sculptures are gold and silver Buddhist statues, and the murals reflect all aspects of the life of the Guge people, providing important historical materials for future generations to study the history of the Guge Dynasty. It is reported that Guge is rich in gold and silver, and experts have discovered many scriptures written in gold and silver juice. The use of gold and silver juice as ink shows how luxurious the Guge people were at that time.
In addition, the experts smelled a foul odor during the inspection. So, the experts followed the smell, and unexpectedly found a mysterious cave, and the smell came from inside the cave. The cave is located under a rock wall, the entrance to the cave is about 2 meters above the ground, it is very inconspicuous, and it is difficult to find if you are not careful. The cave is spacious, tens of meters deep, and it is full of dry corpses. However, these dry corpses have no heads, only the trunk and limbs, and experts named the hole "dry corpse hole". Why are there so many dry corpses in the cave, and where have their heads gone?
After careful investigation and reading of the history books, experts found that the corpses in the dry corpse caves wore different clothing accessories, and from the skeletons, some were children, some were monks, and some were old people. One of the more reliable theories is that in the mid-seventeenth century, the Gug Dynasty was in civil strife, and the king's brother led the Ladakh army into the palace and destroyed the dynasty. The Gug dynasty was then incorporated into Ladakh and soon reclaimed by a local government headed by the Dalai Lama. When the Gug army was defeated, the soldiers and civilians preferred to die, so the Ladakhs cut off their heads and threw the bodies into the hole. Legend has it that at the end of the cave are lamas, then children, and finally women and men. Due to the dry climate, the body did not completely decompose, so the cave had been emitting a foul odor.
