The Nu River is one of the important rivers in southwest China, and in the Nujiang Section of Yunnan Province, the mountains and valleys are deep and the water is turbulent, making it an excellent place to carry out wild water kayaking. The event attracted about 80 athletes from the national kayak team and the professional kayaking team from all provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the central government. This is also the highest standard, largest and most influential kayak wild water event in China in 2021, and the results of the competition will be used as the basis for the selection of the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games.
The Open features a long-distance race from the Bridge to Liuku section, a short distance race on the west bank of the Nu River, and a tiger jumping stage that is a challenge, a traditional feature of the event. For the first time, the event also featured the Extreme Rapids Slalom, which is also a new event for the Paris Olympic Games. In the competition, the athletes are in groups of 4, according to the requirements of the water gate and the reverse water gate, the players are allowed to collide and fight between them, competing for the most favorable route, more ornamental.
After three days of fierce competition, Quan Xin of the Fujian team won the gold medal in the men's single kayak event of extreme kayaks, and Hu Zhaoshan of the Guangdong team and Yu Haijie of the Fujian team won the silver and bronze medals respectively. In the extreme kayak women's singles kayak, Shi Yingying of zhejiang team won the gold medal, zou Xiaolin of the Guangdong team and Yan Jiahua of the Guizhou team won the silver and bronze medals respectively. Shi Yingying also won the women's single kayak distance race and won two gold medals.
Also winning two gold medals were Guizhou's Huang Liman, who won the men's single kayak sprint and long distance races, and Xie Yuancong, a Fujian athlete who also won the men's single rowing sprint and long distance races.
