It was the winter of 1934, and a Red Army force of more than 10,000 troops was divided into two routes, moving towards zhejiang and anhui and southern Anhui respectively, with the goal of attracting and containing hundreds of thousands of Kuomintang troops who were pressing towards the Central Soviet Region, so as to alleviate the pressure on the Central Soviet Region and cover the transfer of the main force of the Red Army.
This Red Army unit, called the Red Tenth Army, was headed by Fang Zhimin as chairman of the Military and Political Committee, Liu Yuxi as the commander of the army, le Shaohua as the political commissar, and Su Yu as the chief of staff.
Because the Red Tenth Army was too small, it did not achieve its predetermined goal of containing the enemy, but because it went deep behind the enemy alone, it fell into a heavy encirclement ten times that of the enemy itself.
On December 24, the Red Tenth Army encountered the Nationalist 1st Brigade at Tanjiaqiao, Taiping County, southern Anhui Province, and fierce fighting broke out between the two sides.
The Kuomintang supplemented the First Brigade, which at first glance gave people the feeling of a second-rate miscellaneous army. In fact, this team was reorganized in the winter of 1933 by three supplementary regiments of the Baoding Training Office, and the brigade's cadres were well-trained, the soldiers were strong and well-equipped.

In the six months after his arrest, Fang Zhimin wrote important articles totaling more than 130,000 words, such as "A Brief Description of My Revolutionary Struggle", "Lovely China", "Poverty All", and "Letter to All Compatriots in Prison", making the final contribution to the Chinese revolution.
On August 6, 1935, Fang Zhimin, Liu Yuxi, Wang Ruyi and others bravely took up their righteousness in Xiasha wo, Nanchang.
