The Sarcophagus of a 9-year-old girl in the Sui Dynasty carved "open the coffin is dead", and experts hesitated repeatedly, or decided to open it

I believe that many people have seen novels or film and television dramas such as "Ghost Blowing Lights" and "Notes on Tomb Robbery", and tomb robbers are often dangerous and dangerous in the process of tomb robbery. Although the ancient tombs in reality are not as exaggerated as in the novel, it is not uncommon for the tomb owners to set up organs. After all, no one wants their graves to be stolen. In 1957, when archaeologists excavated a Sui Dynasty tomb, they encountered a curse carved into the sarcophagus. What the hell is going on? Listen to shi jun to give everyone a slow talk.

Excavation of ancient tombs

In 1957, workers from the Institute of Archaeology of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences accidentally discovered an ancient tomb near Liangjiazhuang in the west of Xi'an. Archaeologists originally thought that this was an ordinary ancient tomb, but they did not expect that it was the most complete and highest-grade Sui Dynasty tomb. Through on-site excavations, it can be seen that the depth of the burial chamber can reach 2.9 meters, and there is a slope-type tomb passage on the south side of the burial chamber, which is 6.85 meters long. Beneath the rammed earth layer is the sarcophagus.

After cleaning up the rammed earth, the experts saw a stone rafter in the burial chamber. The stone rafters are 2.63 meters long, 1.61 meters high and 1.1 meters wide, and are made of 17 bluestone slabs spliced together. Unveiling the stone rafters, you will see a realistically shaped temple-style sarcophagus. The entire sarcophagus lid is carved into the roof of the temple, and the roof is also carved in relief tiles, plates, and cylinder tiles. Even the tiles of the eaves were inscribed with the most popular lotus patterns of the time.

Just as the experts were marveling at the exquisiteness of the sarcophagus, an archaeologist changed his face. The crowd looked down at the place where he pointed his finger and saw four large words inscribed on the sarcophagus: "Open the coffin is death"! Although the scholars are all atheists, they still have a chill on their backs when they see such a curse at the archaeological excavation site. Does it need to be carried out? The experts hesitated, but finally decided to open the coffin.

The owner of the sarcophagus, Li Jingxun

And it turns out they really gambled right. In the sarcophagus, in addition to the common pottery figurines and a few pottery, a large number of treasures were unearthed, including gold, glass, steel, bone, wood lacquer and silk fabrics, accumulating more than 230 burial items. These things are very helpful for studying the history of the Sui Dynasty. So who is the owner of this tomb? Why did she have such a standard burial product? Through the artifacts unearthed at the site, experts also found the answer.

According to the epitaph, the owner of this ancient tomb is named Li Jingxun, the word child, a Sui Dynasty person. Her great-grandfather was the Northern Zhou general Li Xian (李贤), who was made the Duke of Hexi Commandery ( 河西郡公). His grandfather Li Chong, a famous general of a generation, not only followed the Northern Zhou Emperor Yuwen Yong to destroy Northern Qi, but also fought with Yang Jian to fight the world, and the official was supreme. Because Li Chong died in battle at the age of 48, Li Jingxun's father, Li Min (Li Chong's son), was raised in the palace since childhood.

Li Min was versatile and handsome, and Yang Jian's eldest daughter Yang Lihua (formerly Empress dowager of Northern Zhou) married her daughter Yuwen Eying to her. Yuwen Eying and Li Min's daughter is Li Jingxun. Yang Lihua was originally the empress of Northern Zhou, but she did not expect that her father Yang Jian would usurp Zhou Jiansui and let her have words of suffering. Although her father allowed her to remarry, Yang Lihua insisted on keeping the festival for Yuwen Yong. In order to get rid of loneliness, she took her granddaughter Li Jingxun into the palace to raise her.

Who knows, Li Jingxun actually died at the age of 9! Yang Lihua was devastated and held a luxurious funeral for Li Jingxun. All the objects he used during his lifetime were buried in the coffin. In order to prevent tomb robbery, Yang Lihua also engraved the words "open the coffin is death" on the coffin. Therefore, the words on the sarcophagus are not a curse, just a means for Yang Lihua to scare people! I just didn't expect that under the wrong yin and yang, the tomb of 9-year-old Li Jingxun unexpectedly became the most complete and highest-grade Sui Dynasty tomb.
