A 9-year-old boy in Yunnan has been ill for 8 years and has a belly as big as a pregnant woman, and his single father cut his liver to save his son

Yang Jiafeng of Lincang, Yunnan Province, is a child with a hard life.

At the age of 1, he was diagnosed with cirrhosis of the liver, and his stomach rose day by day due to excessive ascites, which was painful. For 8 years, Yang Xuezhong, the father of farming, was helpless to do anything about it.

Until this year, things finally turned around, in Shanghai Renji Hospital, Yang Xuezhong's liver transplanted into his son's body.

However, although the cost of surgery was solved, Yang Jiafeng was still hospitalized in the hospital nearly half a year after surgery, and the high cost became a major problem in front of Yang Xuezhong.

Yang Jiafeng, 9 years old, was born in Yalian Township Cultural Village, Yongde County, Lincang City, Yunnan Province.

Father Yang Xuezhong told reporters that his son was diagnosed with cirrhosis of the liver when he was 1 year old, and he has been taking his child around for several years to seek medical treatment, but the effect is minimal. The child's condition worsened day by day, and he could not go to school normally, and he only read until the first grade at the age of 9.

"Because ascites can't be discharged, for 8 years, the stomach bulges like a pregnant woman, afraid that he is stressed, and school is intermittent." Yang Xuezhong said that his son also wanted to go to school, but he was suffering from pain, and he could not move like a normal child. He himself had not been to school and could not teach his children to read and write.

For several years, Yang Xuezhong and his son ran all over the hospitals in Lincang and Kunming, but the treatment has not progressed. "A hospital in Kunming told me that maybe liver transplants could be treated, but I couldn't really pay for the medical expenses." Yang Xuezhong said he could only turn to the child for help from Traditional Chinese Medicine, and even the nearby herbalist went to see it, but he could not treat it.

Lincang City is on the verge of the Lancang River and named, Yang Xuezhong lives in the cultural village is located in the mountains, he usually farms the main land, when the farmers will go to the construction site to do odd jobs to subsidize the family, casual work is usually 100 yuan a day, the family two old sows that can give birth are the most important source of income. Yang Xuezhong said that shortly after Yang Jiafeng was born, his wife divorced him, and usually the children were taken care of by the grandmother, because they often needed to take the children to see a doctor, resulting in frequent absenteeism, and the family could not make ends meet.

"He came to school for a few days, he couldn't do his homework, he cried and said teacher, don't scold me, my mother ran away, my father has to do farm work at home, and my grandmother can't move when she's old." Ms. Li, Yang Jiafeng's teacher, said that it was very painful to look at the child at that time, and she could feel that Yang Jiafeng wanted to study and live.

Teacher Li said that Yang Jiafeng is very strong, but his illness and family situation have almost plunged him into despair. In April, she accidentally contacted Zhou Tao, a pediatric hepatobiliary expert at Shanghai Renji Hospital, on a social platform, and after learning about Yang Jiafeng's situation, Zhou Tao said that she could arrange treatment and apply for fund relief for him.

"It was the happiest day I've had in years, and I was finally able to save my son." Yang Xuezhong said. Because he was illiterate, the application materials were handled by Teacher Li. On May 1, Yang Jiafeng was successfully admitted to Shanghai Renji Hospital, and after examination, liver transplantation was the best treatment plan, and Yang Xuezhong and his son were successfully matched.

Knowing that Yang Jiafeng had the opportunity to treat, Teacher Li was also happy for him, and the school and teachers also reached out to help. With the help of the Foundation and all parties, the medical expenses were finally settled.

"Dad is about to donate a liver to you, and from now on you will be happy with the liver." Before the operation, Zhou Tao recorded on social platforms.

On July 7, Yang Jiafeng and Yang Xuezhong entered the operating room together, and after 8 hours of surgery, part of Yang Xuezhong's liver smoothly entered his son's body.

The cost of treatment is a challenge

"The first thing my son said when he woke up was to think of his father." Yang Xuezhong said that seeing his son's strong appearance, he felt that it was worth doing anything for him. After 5 days of surgery, Yang Xuezhong was discharged from the hospital, and since then he has been accompanying his son in the hospital, watching his son get better day by day, he can't express his happiness in his heart. But there is also a conundrum in front of him, that is, the cost of follow-up treatment.

According to the certificate issued by Shanghai Renji Hospital for Yang Xuezhong on December 14, Yang Jiafeng was admitted to the pediatric ward of the hospital's liver surgery department on May 1, diagnosed with "cryptogenic cirrhosis", and underwent liver transplant surgery on July 7, with a total cost of more than 336,000 yuan during hospitalization.

Yang Jiafeng is still in the hospital for continued treatment. In order to save money, Yang Xuezhong has been living in the hospital at night, sleeping in a chair next to the bed at night, during which his living expenses rely on more than 20,000 yuan raised by water droplets.

"Although my son improved after the operation, the ascites could not be fully discharged, and a second operation was performed, and the son currently needs to be hospitalized all the time." Yang Xuezhong said that in order to take his son to see a doctor, he had spent all his savings, and even owed more than 300,000 yuan in debt, and he could not afford to pay the follow-up expenses, hoping that caring people could help.
