Sudden opening of the front trunk storage safety hazard Tesla recalls some Model series electric vehicles

According to the website of the State Administration for Market Regulation, Tesla Motors (Beijing) Co., Ltd. and Tesla (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. recently filed a recall plan with the State Administration for Market Regulation and decided to recall some vehicles from now on.

Specifically, tesla motors (Beijing) Co., Ltd. recalled some imported Model S electric vehicles with production dates from January 21, 2015 to November 18, 2020, totaling 19,697 units.

Vehicles covered by the recall may have a slightly backward alignment of the front load compartment latch and the lock latch, which may not affect the locking of the primary latch, but may affect the locking of the secondary latch. When the primary lock latch is accidentally released, if the secondary lock latch is not locked, the front trunk cover may suddenly open during the vehicle driving, affecting the driver's line of sight, increasing the risk of collision accidents, and there is a safety hazard.

Tesla Motors (Beijing) Co., Ltd. will inspect the secondary locking latch device of the front trunk cover for the vehicles within the scope of the recall free of charge, and if the front trunk cover is found to be correctly locked by the second-level locking latch device, the front trunk locking device will be repositioned and installed to ensure that it is in the correct position to eliminate safety hazards.

In addition, Tesla Motors (Beijing) Co., Ltd. will recall some imported Model 3 electric vehicles with a production date from October 4, 2018 to November 20, 2019, totaling 35,836 units; Tesla (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. will recall some domestically produced Model 3 electric vehicles from October 14, 2019 to December 27, 2020, for a total of 144208 units.

The trunk lid of vehicles covered by this part of the recall may cause excessive wear of the trunk wiring harness after a long period of repeated opening and closing. If this wear causes the core separation of the coaxial cable, it may cause the reversing image to not work properly, thus affecting the driver's field of vision when reversing, and in extreme cases, it will increase the risk of collision when reversing, and there is a safety hazard.

Tesla Motors (Beijing) Co., Ltd. and Tesla (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. will inspect the trunk wiring harness free of charge for vehicles within the scope of the recall. If the degree of wear is within the allowable range of the design of the coaxial cable, a protective cover will be installed for the trunk harness to ensure that the harness has a sufficient bend radius when the trunk is closed to prevent further wear; if the degree of wear is beyond the allowable range of the coaxial cable design, the vehicle will be replaced with a new harness and a protective cover will be installed to eliminate the safety hazard.
