There are safety hazards, and Tesla recalled 475,000 vehicles in the United States

Tesla announced a recall of about 475,000 electric vehicles in the United States, involving two models, the Model 3 and the Model S, due to technical defects that may increase the risk of accidents, and the total recall volume is close to its total global deliveries last year.

Largest voluntary recall

According to Tesla's filing with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the recall totals 475318 vehicles, including 356,000 Model 3s produced between 2017 and 2020 and 119,000 Model Ss assembled since 2014.

Tesla told NHTSA that the harness of the Model 3 rearview camera could be damaged by switching the trunk, making the image unable to be displayed. The Model S's bonnet locking is misaligned when assembled, which can cause the bonnet to open unexpectedly. Both of these technical flaws have the potential to obstruct the driver's view, thereby "increasing the risk of collision."

According to an agency safety report released this month, about 1% of the recalled Model 3s are expected to have rearview camera problems. About 14 percent of the recalled Model S may have an engine cover problem.

NHTSA said Tesla has found more than 2,300 warranties that could be related to these two technical defects, but the company has not received any reports of crashes, injuries or deaths related to the above defects.

Reuters said the recall was almost equivalent to tesla's total global deliveries last year. The data shows that in 2020, Tesla will deliver about 500,000 vehicles. According to the Financial Times, this is Tesla's largest active car recall to date.

Tesla said the recall is only for the U.S. market and the company will address both issues for free. Since the problem with the Model S is improper assembly, not part damage, the user can go to the service center for repairs to solve the problem. For the Model 3, Tesla said it will install a new harness for users.

Amplify security concerns

This isn't the first time Tesla has had a recall and a car safety issue. Industry analysts believe that the recall will once again amplify the outside world's concerns about the safety of Tesla's electric vehicles.

Since the beginning of this year, regulators have raised various safety concerns about Tesla, including touchscreen displays and autopilot assist functions.

Under pressure from NHTSA's investigations and interviews, Tesla announced last week that it would turn off the ability for passengers to play games while on the go.

Some Tesla users say recalls and reworks seem to have become commonplace, and it's no surprise. However, some fans believe that compared with other car brands, Tesla has always enjoyed a good reputation in after-sales, such as being willing to go to the door for repairs.

Affected by the recall, Tesla's stock price fell by 3% at one point. As of December 30, EST, Tesla's stock price fell 1.46% to close at $1,070.34 per share. Tesla's stock price has risen nearly 50% this year, and its total market value is now more than $1 trillion.

Daniel Ives, an analyst at Wadebush Securities, predicts that Tesla shares may continue to rise in 2022. With global parts shortages alleviated, growing demand in the Chinese market, and tesla's new plants in Berlin and Texas starting production, Tesla's electric vehicle production is expected to double in 2022, from about 1 million today to about 2 million.

Avis expects tesla to account for 40% of global deliveries in 2022, still occupying an important position.
