On October 6, 1997, an elderly man named Huang Zhengqing died in Lanzhou at the age of 95. His life can be described as full of legends, experiencing the three eras of the Qing Dynasty, the Republic of China, and New China, and he is also one of the people who cannot be forgotten. However, this old man actually donated 30 planes to Chongqing free of charge in 1944, so how did he become a major general after the founding of the People's Republic of China? Today, I will talk about the legendary life of Huang Zhengqing and the origin behind his award.
Huang Zhengqing was born in 1903 to a Tibetan family in Sichuan, in fact, Tibetans originally had no surname, but his father Kampot Dongzhu served as Baozheng in the early years of the Republic of China. When the Tibetan masses fused together, they called him Hang Baozheng, which means official in Tibetan. And people for those who have status or become officials, they all call their titles, so generally call Kampot Dongzhu hangbaozheng.
Shouting became Huang Baozheng, and huang Zhengqing's family simply took Huang as his surname, so his Tibetan name was Luo Sang Zewang and his Chinese name was Huang Zhengqing. The Huang family was well respected in the local area and supported by Nanjing at the time, but as early as 1925, Huang Zhengqing had contacts with underground organizations. He has privately accepted progressive ideas and participated in progressive activities, but he has not propagated them. The man who had contact with him was named Xuanxia Father, and for some reason he quarreled with Old Jiang and became the only student in Huangpu I who was expelled.
Since then, he has been secretly engaged in united front work, and Xuanxia's father has a considerable influence, and many upper-class figures in the Huangpu department, the Northwest Army, and western Zhejiang have trusted him. After Huang Zhengqing met him, he unexpectedly became good friends with him and was able to receive his education. Under the influence of Xuanxia's father, Huang Zhengqing not only gave birth to revolutionary ideas, but also stimulated the feeling of loving the motherland. After the outbreak of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, Huang Zhengqing's family actively resisted Japan, and he himself was appointed to the posts of Major General of the Military Senate.
Huang Zhengqing's younger brother Huang Zhengji was appointed by the Fifth Jia Muxiang (living Buddha, also Huang Zhengqing's younger brother) to Chongqing and various war zones with pennants and condolences several times to comfort the resistance fighters. At the end of 1943, Huang Zhengqing took people to Chongqing, and in 1944, he donated a huge amount of money to Chongqing to buy 30 aircraft to support the War of Resistance Against Japan. However, because of their identity, people are more familiar with the donation of a fighter plane by the Yu opera master Chang Xiangyu, and the deeds of the Huang family are little known.
He was later awarded the title of Founding Major General because of his outstanding contributions during the Liberation War. In 1949, with the interests of the nation first, Huang Zhengqing resolutely led an uprising and established a meritorious service for the liberation of the Great Northwest. As early as 1920, the reactionary warlord Ma Qi led the Ma family army to loot and burn and kill in Labrang. It just so happened that Huang Zhengqing's family came here with the newly reincarnated Fifth Dynasty Jia Muyan, and made unremitting efforts to drive out the Ma family army, driving the Ma family army out of the Gannan grassland.
He thus became a hero of that era, so as soon as he announced the uprising, there were many local people following. And the money that was donated enough to buy 30 planes was not for Nanjing, but for the motherland. So this honor was won by him, in addition to being awarded the rank of major general, he also served as the commander of the Gannan Military Sub-district and continued to serve the people. During his tenure of office, he often went deep into the masses to inspect and understand the will of the people, and did a great deal of work in strengthening national unity.
