More than 20 years ago, the pioneering Shenzhen entrepreneurs introduced the most advanced beer brewing equipment and technology for Shenzhen Jinwei Brewery from Germany more than 9,000 kilometers away, and experienced the historical leap of "Shenzhen Speed", and the brewery is being transformed and revitalized.
After space construction and value rebirth, it has changed from a material production place to an innovative source force field, from a silent industrial zone to an art field - brewery art block, and continues to create a more global vision of the city release site for Shenzhen.
At the same time, it will also usher in a Shenzhen-Hong Kong Twin Cities event, the world's first exhibition with urban and urbanization as a fixed theme - the main exhibition hall of the 9th Shenzhen-Hong Kong City\Architecture Bi-City Biennale (Shenzhen) is located here, through curation and exchanges, sharing global creativity, bringing a very pioneering creative resource to Shenzhen and even the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
The 9th Shenzhen-Hong Kong Bi-City Biennale of Cities\Architecture (Shenzhen) (hereinafter referred to as the "Bi-City Biennale") is scheduled to be held in mid-June 2022, and the global selection of the curatorial team has been launched, focusing on the sustainable, green and ecological development of cities under the "double carbon" goal, focusing on urban coping strategies in the context of global climate change.

As the world's first exhibition with the fixed theme of cities and urbanization, the Bi-Cities Biennale is co-organized by Shenzhen and Hong Kong, two cities connected and closely interactive, based on the rapid urbanization of the Pearl River Delta region where it is located, paying attention to the global urban problems, using contemporary visual culture to present a wide range of exchanges and interactions with the public, with international, pioneering, public welfare and other characteristics.
The Bi-Cities Biennale is a biennial cultural event in Shenzhen and Hong Kong, an international platform for innovation and opening up, a pioneering practice of activating urban space, an organic interactive network linked by urban development, a cultural link of cooperation between cities in the Greater Bay Area, and an architectural feast with the participation of the whole people. The brewery art block is not only the material preservation of urban memory, but also the emotional symbol of a generation of Shenzhen people, and it is also a creative sample of the new generation of industrial heritage, which is in line with the concept of the Twin Cities Biennale - to activate the urban space with pioneering practice.
Brewery Art Block is the first renovation project in Shenzhen to demolish and rebuild and protect industrial cultural relics, located in the southeast of Buxin Area, Dongxiao Street, Luohu, the former jinwei brewery production base. The transformation of the industrial heritage of the brewery adopts the strategy of combining static protection and dynamic renewal, and after spatial transformation and structural nesting, its original architectural form is preserved to the greatest extent and the collective memory of the city is preserved.
You can still see the most conspicuous beer silo, which is the epitome of Shenzhen's struggle and glory, and you can also feel the conception of modern aesthetic space, ascend to the commanding heights, you can overlook the charm of the city from different angles, and feel the sensory impact brought about by the gap between modern commercial and industrial heritage.

From manufacturing to creation, from breweries to experimental fields, this is not only an industrial heritage site, but also a spiritual territory that dares to be the first, and an innovative source force field that is not only industrial heritage. Once beer foam promotes dopamine secretion, just as the Brewery Art District boldly injects avant-garde elements, creating a space experience that jumps out of the everyday and promotes adrenaline secretion.
We dig deep into local culture, introduce digital creative industries and international resources, embrace youth and creativity, call on thoughtful makers and artists to settle in and participate in co-creation, and also provide more resource grafting and learning opportunities for residents to enhance the sustainability of social creation, which complements the original intention of the "Encouraging Youth Program" in this year's Biennale of Two Cities – encouraging young curators and exhibitors, including architects, designers, artists and young scholars, to actively participate with creative ideas.
The 14,000㎡ brewery art block is perfectly embedded in the Guangdong City complex, and under the demolition and reconstruction of a large area of the city, its standing almost condenses the struggle and glory of Luohu and even Shenzhen.
Luohu, as the earliest built-up area in Shenzhen, here gathered a large number of entrepreneurs and strivers in the forefront of the times, more than 20 years ago, here is the introduction of the most advanced beer manufacturing equipment and technology from Germany, more than 20 years later this site still shines with industrial brilliance, becoming the epitome of Shenzhen's history, culture and the spirit of the times.
At the same time, as an art space, the large area of space in the brewery art block leaves unlimited possibilities for subsequent curations, and also provides a public space full of cultural and artistic atmosphere for the public. Through linkage with urban cultural exhibitions, it will transform a single factory production line into a diversified art field in the future, and bring a new source field of innovation to Luohu and even Shenzhen through long-term art penetration.
