When Sun Dianying stole the Qing Tombs, why did his descendants do the opposite of him

History is the memory of things that have been said and done. —Carl Baker

Sun Dianying was a warlord in the early Republic of China. He is most well known for the theft of the Tanglin Tombs, which led to the loss of a large number of cultural relics abroad, so his reputation in history is not very good. So does Sun Dianying have any descendants? What did his descendants do?

When Sun Dianying stole the Qing Tombs, why did his descendants do the opposite of him

Sun Dianying was from a poor background, and as early as when he was young, his father was innocently imprisoned for being bullied by the flag people and died in prison. This made him full of hatred for the Manchu Qing when he was young, and gradually developed a fighting and aggressive personality.

Sun Dianying, who was in a chaotic world, first defected to the Beiyang warlords, and later became a bandit, using his chances to occupy the mountain and become the leader of the bandits.

As his power expanded, Sun Dianying's bandit ranks were first recruited by the immediate warlord Zhang Zongchang, who served as the commander of the Fourteenth Army. After the defeat of the Northern Expedition, Sun Dianying surrendered to Chiang Kai-shek and became the commander of the Twelfth Army of the National Revolutionary Army.

In 1928, Sun Dianying, who was stationed at Mashenqiao in Jixian County, received orders to encircle and suppress Ma Futian, a habitual bandit of the Feng army who had fled to Malanyu.

From Mashen Bridge to Malanyu, in the middle is the Qing Tombs. On the way to encirclement and suppression, Sun Dianying saw the magnificent architecture of the Qing Dynasty Tombs, and he was bent on becoming bigger, and he immediately had the idea of robbing the tomb.

At that time, because Feng Yuxiang had already driven Puyi and other Manchu Qing descendants out of the Forbidden City and torn up the "Royal Preferential Conditions", it was impossible for the Manchu Qing descendants who were still unable to take care of the living and arrange for people to take care of the Qing Tombs. Therefore, the great Qing Tombs were left unattended.

Everyone knows that the Qing Tombs are the mausoleums of the Manchu Qing Emperors, and the number of funerary items buried by Cixi is even more considerable. Sun Dianying surrendered to the Nationalist Army halfway and was not valued in the Nationalist Army. Most of the expenses of his army need to be financed by himself, so the situation is quite unfavorable to him.

It was under such circumstances that Sun Dianying put all martial law within 30 miles of the Qing Dynasty Tombs and posted notices everywhere, claiming that he wanted to conduct military exercises and that idlers were not allowed to enter. At the same time, on the grounds of "understanding the local suffering and not being able to raise grain on the spot," 30 large carts were requisitioned in the local area, saying that they would be used to pull grain from elsewhere.

After everything was prepared, Sun Dianying successively robbed the tombs of the Qing Tombs where Cixi was located and the Yuling Tombs where Qianlong was located, obtaining pearls, jadeite, ivory, jade, calligraphy and paintings... Countless times, it is said that it took 3 days and 3 nights just to pack and transport it back to the barracks.

Sun Dianying's tomb robbery soon became well known to everyone in the country, and the impact was extremely bad.

Puyi, who lived in Zhangyuan, Tianjin, was even more angry and jumped to his feet, and at the recommendation of a group of Manchu Qing widows, he personally found Chiang Kai-shek and demanded that Sun Dianying be severely punished. Chiang Kai-shek also stated that this matter should be severely punished.

However, because Sun Dianying put it in place, the matter was finally closed.

In addition to being donated to Kuomintang dignitaries, the remaining cultural relics were purchased by him for arms, military food, and so on, and he was also appointed as the chairman of Anhui Province and the commander-in-chief of the advance army.

It was not until 1947, when our army liberated Tangyin, Henan, that Sun Dianying, who had been at large, was captured by our army and imprisoned in a shelter for war criminals.

Because Sun Dianying had a good performance during the anti-Japanese war, the state did not pursue him for stealing and excavating the Tanglin Tombs, but instead gave him more preferential treatment in life, and even allowed him to take care of his life with a soldier.

However, at this time, Sun Dianying suffered from a variety of diseases due to perennial opium smoking, and although he was later treated by the state, he eventually died of illness.

When Sun Dianying died, his son Sun Tianyi was 16 years old.

When Sun Dianying stole the Qing Tombs, why did his descendants do the opposite of him

Sun Tianyi was born in Beijing three years after Sun Dianying robbed the tomb. Therefore, the history of Sun Dianying's tomb robbery is not clear, but it is only heard from the mouth of his mother Liu Qingzhen.

Sun Tianyi did not adhere to Sun Dianying's gangsterism, he was very good at reading, in his early years he studied in the Department of Western Languages and Literatures of Fu Jen University in Beijing, and in 1957 he worked at the Xi'an Foreign Chinese College.

During the Cultural Revolution, Sun Tianyi was treated unfairly due to the influence of Sun Dianying. But he persevered in self-improvement, and while going deep into the working people to use the idea of labor reform, he never gave up the hard study of language professions.

After the end of the Cultural Revolution, he not only cared for his sick wife, but also painstakingly translated a large number of world famous works.

After his rehabilitation, Sun Tianyi resumed his work and became a professor at xi'an Foreign Chinese College.

Because of his high attainments and profound theoretical knowledge in English, Sun Tianyi often has a unique charm when teaching courses and is deeply loved by students. After years of teaching and educating people, he has cultivated a large number of outstanding talents for the country.

At the same time, sun Tianyi, who is highly respected and respected, has also visited China's most influential scholars many times, publicizing the long history of China and China's foreign policy to other countries, so that foreigners have a deeper understanding of China.

In addition to his academic achievements, Sun Tianyi is also the president of the Yellow Emperor's Mausoleum Foundation.

Sun Tianyi held this position because he had a strong interest in history and culture, and in 1959, shortly after graduating from university, he had the privilege of seeing the Yellow Emperor's Mausoleum in the Loess Plateau. In his view, this is the root of the Chinese nation. But what he saw at the time was a dilapidated, rudimentary appearance. Therefore, this inspired his willingness to build and maintain the Yellow Emperor's Mausoleum.

In 1992, the state called for the renovation of the Yellow Emperor's Mausoleum, Sun Tianyi responded positively, and communicated with the provincial leaders many times, and finally established the Yellow Emperor Mausoleum Foundation, and Sun Tianyi was elected as the president of the foundation.

Sun Tianyi raised many donations and finally started the renovation project smoothly that year.

After the renovation was completed, the newly renovated Yellow Emperor's Mausoleum has become a must-visit place for tourists in Xi'an.

When Sun Tianyi saw people praying in front of the Yellow Emperor's mausoleum, he felt extremely relieved in his heart, thinking that he had done something of immeasurable merit.

Looking at Sun Dianying and Sun Tianyi's father and son, one robbing the tomb and the other guarding the tomb, some people may think that this is "the father's debt is repaid by the son". However, it is also because the times are different, and the education of father and son is different.
