Under siege
In the autumn of 1934, Cheng Zihua, Zheng Weisan and others led the Red Twenty-fifth Army were forced to retreat from the Eyu-Anhui Su District. Along the way, they encountered layers of enemy sieges and fought several vicious battles. Starting from He Jiachong in Luoshan County, it is necessary to rush all the way to southern Shaanxi to take root.
They crossed Tongbai all the way to Zaoyang and headed north into Yu. It also passed through the line of Biyang, Fangcheng, and Lushan, and headed west, striving to break through thousands of miles. Finally, in the winter, we came to the area of Lushi County, where it is said that we have already seen the glimmer of hope, and the southern Shaanxi region in front of us, Shangluo, is the weak point of the enemy's military strength, a total of seventy or eighty miles of mountain roads, if it goes well, one day can throw off the enemy who follows closely behind.
However, Chiang Kai-shek also reacted quickly, urgently ordering the large troops of the Kuomintang army to surround and block and lay down an encirclement. More than 10,000 people from the 60th Division of the 19th Route Army under Yang Hucheng had preemptively occupied the passes into Shaanxi: Lu's Wulichuan and Zhuyang Pass were deployed, while behind them were the "pursuit and suppression teams" of five brigades with nearly tens of thousands of troops from Luanchuan Town, and it was inevitable that the Red Twenty-fifth Army would "catch turtles in an urn."
Combined, these forces were already ten times the strength of the Red Army. If they are surrounded and suppressed by the Kuomintang army, it will be a vicious battle between the enemy and the enemy, and it is very likely that no one will survive.
At such an urgent juncture, the military commander Cheng Zihua and the military leaders, as well as the leaders of the provincial party committee who retreated with the army, held a meeting late at night anxiously, but they could not think hard of a feasible countermeasure. Lu's mountain is a big ditch with deep ravines and complex terrain, so you may be able to try your luck and find a shortcut.
However, the dozen or so reconnaissance teams they sent were all fruitless. The mountain people here are devastated by the war and do not want to cause trouble. Whenever a Soldier of the Red Army passes by, he is hiding far away.
Time passed quickly, but the Central Military Commission was still helpless, so was their entire Red Twenty-fifth Army going to be trapped in this Lu clan? In the evening, the military commander Cheng Zihua brought a cargo man and gave them hope.
Stand
Chen Tingxian was a native of Yuncheng, Shanxi, and when he was young, his family was surrounded by disciples, so he had to go to Xiezhou Yanchi to do hard work. Soon expelled again, he wandered around and eventually went into exile in Yuxi Lushi County, where he was taken in by a well-wisher as an apprentice and learned the craft of making pastries in a cake shop.
Every day, he shoulders the burden of goods and travels around the four townships to sell pastries, so the mountains at the junction of Yu and Shaanxi are like his own home, and he knows the mountain trails very well.
On this day, he saw this unit when he was passing by, and Cheng Zihua personally talked to him and asked about the road. He found that both of them wore the accents of their hometown of Yuncheng, Shanxi, and he felt very kind. Moreover, at that time, the Red Army was still buying grain from a family on the side of the road, giving a lot of oceans.
This made Chen Tingxian feel good about this unit that bought grain from the people, and other troops came here to "collect" or directly rob their people's grain, and this unit was really for the people!
After Cheng Junchang learned about Chen Tingxian's life and exile experience, he tightly held Chen Tingxian's cracked hand and was moved by tears. He said sincerely, "Little fellow, you have suffered!" ”。 And this also deeply touched this young man who suffered.
Chen Tingxian's initial strange doubts gradually disappeared. "Fellow countrymen see fellow countrymen, two tears flowing." It turned out that Chen Tingxian had long heard about the name of the Red Army for the sake of the people. The commander did not forget the purpose of the trip and asked him for directions.
As soon as he learned that the Red Army was in danger and was worried about a guide leading the way, he stood up, patted his chest and said, "I will show you the way!" "His unshirkable feat saved the lives of more than two thousand Red Army soldiers.
Early the next morning, Chen Tingxian took the main force of the Red Army to the rarely inhabited Shaanxi Trail, through which he usually sold goods and traded for a long time, except that few people knew about this shortcut in the mountains.
Commander Cheng was not ambiguous, and he sent a group of pistol regiments to the houses around Wulichuan to create the illusion of marching to this point, which was used to confuse the enemy and attract their ideas.
The Red Twenty-fifth Army took the opportunity to flee, and under the guidance of Chen Tingxian, after three days and three nights of overnight rushing, it crossed the mountains and mountains, and successfully highlighted the encirclement circle guarded by Chiang Kai-shek's heavy troops.
After that, the Red 25th Army struggled hard in the Eyu-Shaanxi Border Region for more than a year, and experienced many breakthroughs, and finally marched into southern Shaanxi to reach Yan'an via Gannan and joined the large troops.
North and south
Chen Tingxian led the Red Army to walk three days and three nights of mountain roads, passing through hundreds of miles of high mountains and dangerous valleys, and the soldiers of the Red Twenty-fifth Army were all grateful to him, but they were shy in their pockets, and the money that could be given to him was only a dozen oceans.
Unexpectedly, he resolutely refused to accept it, saying, "The army for the people is a good army, and as a common man, how can I collect your money?" Commander Cheng was speechless, and finally wrote a note for him, solemnly saying: "From now on, you are also a member of the Communist Party!" ”
He didn't realize that this sentence would have such a serious impact on his life in the future, but silently put the note into his pocket. On the red note, it was actually Cheng Zihua and Wu Huanxian who jointly wrote down his merits, and it was also stamped with a red seal.
Unfortunately, he was illiterate, and when he returned home, he hid it in a small hole in the purlin of his adobe house, and then a Japanese air raid bombed his old house into ruins along with the notes.
He did not know that he was actually recorded in military history as an ordinary ordinary person with a flat head, and was called "the first person in military history". In the "Military History of the 25th Army of the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army" written by the Political Department of the Central Military Commission, nearly 300 words record his righteous deeds.
Comrade Cheng Zihua, then commander of the Red Twenty-Fifth Army and later vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, and Liu Huaqing, former chief of the Political Department of the Red Twenty-fifth Army and vice chairman of the Central Military Commission, co-wrote the memoir "Arduous Battle, Long March into Shaanxi" and also wrote the story of his help to the Red Army break through.
However, after the founding of the People's Republic of China, there were also many twists and turns in the exact way to find him, and it turned out that when the secretary of the Red Army recorded his name, because he and Chen Tingxian both had a thick Shanxi accent, and he claimed to be north of the Yellow River, he was recorded as "Chen Tingxian of Hebei".
Therefore, the staff who wrote the history of the war searched in Hebei many times without results, and later expanded the investigation site to the entire Jinji-Hebei yu area, and only then did they learn his exact address.
However, at this time, Chen Tingxian was seriously ill and bedridden. He struggled to cooperate with the staff to recall the legendary story of the time, but before he could get a reply from the organization, he died.
However, his deeds in leading the way for the Red Army have always been remembered by everyone. His heroic feats helped the Red Army through the most critical moments.
