Cai Yi
A native of Baoqing, Hunan (present-day Shaoyang). It has the reputation of "the first general of the Republic of China". During the Hongxian imperial system, he first raised the banner of anti-Yuan and "did not fight for power and personality". He died on 8 November 1916 at the age of 34. The following year, on April 12, the Beiyang government held a state funeral for him at Yuelu Mountain in Changsha, and Cai Yi became the "first person to be buried in the history of the Republic of China", three days before Huang Xing.
