54 collection units in Hunan completed the publication of the census registration catalogue of ancient books.

Red Net Moment, December 29 (Reporter Yuan Silei Correspondent Chen Hao Li Jiao) Reporter learned today from the Hunan Library that the "Census Registration Catalogue of Ancient Books of Nine Collecting Units in Hunan Province (Changsha City, Zhuzhou City, Xiangtan City)" was officially published and issued by the National Library Press recently, which marks that the publication of the Census Registration Catalogue of Ancient Books in Hunan Province has been basically completed, and the ancient books in Hunan Province have been basically clarified.

Hunan Province has about 1.5 million volumes (pieces) of ancient and old documents, mainly concentrated in the Hunan Library, Hunan Normal University Library, Hunan Academy of Social Sciences Library, while the number of ancient books in Hunan Provincial Museum, Hunan University Yuelu Academy, Shaoyang Songpo Library, Wugang City Library, Fenghuang County Library, Qiyang County Library, Pupu County Library, Xinhua County Library and other units is also tens of thousands. The census of ancient books is the basis for the protection and development of ancient books, and is an important task to comprehensively understand the number and editions of ancient books collected by various units. Since the launch of the "Chinese Ancient Books Protection Plan" in 2007, Hunan Library (Hunan Provincial Ancient Books Protection Center) has carefully deployed and actively carried out the census and registration of ancient books in the province, in addition to selecting ancient book practitioners from all over the province to participate in various training courses held by the National Center for the Protection of Ancient Books, it has also held a number of ancient book bibliographic training courses in Hunan Library and Hengyang City, Shaoyang City, Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture and other areas, and directly sent personnel down to various units for on-site guidance and on-site bibliography.

Through the census, some precious documents that were not known or thought to be lost were discovered. For example, in October 2014, the Hunan Provincial Ancient Books Protection Center found that the 3rd year of Yuan Taiding's Luling Wuxi Academy's engraving of the "New Compilation of Ancient and Modern Events and Literature Clusters" in the 36 volumes of the "Outer Collection" 15 volumes and 14 volumes were found in the census of ancient books of Yuelu Academy of Hunan University, which increased the number of Song and Yuan engraving collection units in Hunan Province to three. Another example is the one-volume "DuxiuXuan Anthology" (Qing Kangxi Inscribed Edition) by Hu Zuochuan of Qingyou County, the eleventh volume of Zhou Shiyi's "Shi Guan" (Qing Kangxi Inscribed Edition), the twelve volumes of Xiangtan Liu Zhiyi's "Collected Poems of Damaged Zhai" (Qing Kangxi Inscribed), the one-volume volume of Changsha Liao Yuandu's "Covered Nest Yu Pen" (Qingqianlong Changsha Jihengtang Inscribed Edition), and the four volumes of Anxiang Liu Zhiheng's "Collection of Personality Objects of Mr. Liu Duxuan" (Qingqianlong Inscribed Edition), all of which were banned and destroyed by Qianlong, and were found in Hunan Library, Xiangtan City Library, and Lixian Library respectively. The Fenghuang County Library contains hundreds of pages of letters from well-known figures in the Qing Dynasty to The Viceroy of Guizhou, Fenghuang Tian Xingshu, and many historical materials about Guizhou Pingmiao and teaching cases. The discovery of these precious documents plays an important role in promoting the academic research of Huxiang and combing the development of Hunan literature.

The publication of the census and registration catalogue of ancient books of 54 collection units in Hunan Province is of great significance in the history of the compilation of the ancient books catalogue of Hunan Province, and will play a particularly important role in publicizing, revealing and preserving the works of the Huxiang people and ancient local documents, clarifying the current situation of the ancient books in Hunan and carrying forward the excellent traditional culture.
