Recently, Huawei and Buffalo, a major Japanese wireless communication equipment company, reached an agreement on the standard essential patent (SEP) that is indispensable for providing Wi-Fi 6 services.

Compared with Wi-Fi 5, Wi-Fi 6 supports two-way MU-MIMO, supports OFDMA, WPA3 and other technologies, with increased capacity, lower latency and more stable signal. At present, Bafalo has launched router products that support the Wi-Fi 6 standard. According to Huawei, the conclusion of this authorization agreement will further improve the competitiveness of Buffalo's products.

At present, the two parties have not published the specific amount of the patent licensing fee. According to it, Japan's technology trade (NGB) statistics show that Huawei holds 122 patents for Wi-Fi 6 SEP, accounting for nearly 20% of the total, second only to Qualcomm's 123 patents. Huawei said it hopes to receive Wi-Fi 6 royalties for further research and development by the company.
