Therefore, Old Jiang was very cautious in choosing the position of commander of this Jiangyin Fortress, and would personally summon him to talk, understand, and investigate.
However, for those who are promoted to this position, it is a very tempting position, which is a fat shortage. Because: First, the fortress has set up a checkpoint in Jiangyin's Huangtian Port, because it is the main road for traffic on the Yangtze River, corruption and smuggling are profitable; second, there is income from reeds along the River in Jiangyin; third, the mines near the fortress have mining rights, which are profitable; fourth, the fortress still has hundreds of acres of land for rent; fifth, it is possible to share dividends in Jiangyin, such as building dry stocks in cotton yarn factories; sixth, it is possible to use the public funds of the fortress to go to Shanghai to speculate; and seventh, it can also eat the soldiers' empty salaries.
In May 1948, Kong Qinggui, who was then the commander of Jiangyin Fortress, made a lot of money in this position, and wanted to be a yugong to be idle, so he resigned from the position of commander, so there was a vacancy.
Because this was a fat vacancy, many important party-state officials saw that there was a vacancy, and they sponsored their relatives and friends to compete for this position, so that suddenly there were five or six people who came to compete for this vacancy, such as Li Daogong, commander of the 51st Regiment of Artillery of Jiangyin Fortress sponsored by the former commander Kong Qinggui, and Nie Qi, chief of staff; and Zheng Rui, sponsored by Hu Zongnan.
At this time, Dai Rongguang was the chief of the Military Engineering Department of the Army General Headquarters, and he also wanted to compete for this position.
Dai Rongguang is a native of Sheyang, Jiangsu Province, graduated from the sixth term of the Whampoa Military Academy, and studied at Tsinghua University, Shanghai East Asia Tongwen Academy, and Sophia University in Japan, and is proficient in Japanese, German and English Chinese. He successively served as a major instructor at the Air Defense School of the Aviation Administration, a battalion commander of the 200th Division of Du Yuming's department, a colonel section chief of the newly formed 11th Army, a chief of staff of the major general of the 96th Division, a major general of the 6th Army, an artillery commander, and the chief of the Ordnance Engineering Department of the Army General Headquarters.
Dai Rongguang was a wise man, and he used the connections of his old classmates and fellow villagers to get a letter of sponsorship from the Army General Headquarters, and through the confidential staff officer of Colonel Yu Jishi, director of the Military Affairs Bureau of the State Government, he wrote him a particularly good examination review, put it at the top of the sponsor list, and sent it to Lao Jiang's desk.
As mentioned earlier, Old Chiang Kai-shek will personally summon the personnel in important military posts to talk, understand, and investigate, but his understanding of the personnel under inspection is still based on the material reported below, and the so-called interview is just to see his appearance, as long as he talks properly and behaves properly, he can generally get by.
After Dai Rongguang learned that he had been encircled by Lao Jiang, he immediately pulled out one of the original gold teeth at the expense of pain, because he knew that Lao Jiang was particularly disgusted by the soldiers wearing gold teeth and wearing gold rings, and he also handed off a black hair, scraped it into a monk's head like Old Jiang, and after dressing up neatly, accepted Lao Jiang's summons.
After such a general disturbance operation, Old Jiang was naturally very satisfied with him. In June 1948, Dai Rongguang sat on the throne of the commander of Jiangyin Fortress as he wished.

However, the good times did not last long. In April 1949, Dai Rongguang's men were basically plotted against by our underground party. On April 21, 1949, he inexplicably became a prisoner of the rebel officers and soldiers.
Fortunately, at that time, our party adopted a tolerant and important attitude toward the intellectuals in the former Kuomintang army, and after Dai Rongguang was captured, he was first sent to the People's Liberation Army Officer Corps of the East China Military Region to study, and then served as a military instructor at the East China Military and Political University and a military instructor at the Nanjing Military Academy, saving him from the pain of imprisonment and died in 1971 at the age of 62.
