The ancients practiced the art of feng shui and believed that ancestral tombs were related to people's luck. Because of this, Li Zicheng, the leader of the uprising in the last years of the Ming Dynasty, suffered the tragedy of being exhumed by his ancestors.
In the fourteenth year of Chongzhen (1641), the rebel army led by Li Zicheng fought Lianke and became a force in the rebel army at the end of the Ming Dynasty that the Ming Dynasty hated incomparably. The Ming Dynasty, which had suffered repeated losses, could not take advantage of the battlefield, so it began to use some damage moves, and in that era, digging up Li Zicheng's ancestral grave was one of the methods. The proposer of this plan was Bian Dashou, who was then the commander of Mizhi County in Yan'an Province, Shaanxi Province, and was in charge of Li Zicheng's hometown.
There was a figure like Li Zicheng in the jurisdiction, and Bian Dashou could not have been unaware of it, and it was difficult for him to sit still. Through visiting and investigating, he learned the burial place of Li Zicheng's grandfather Li Hai and father Li Shouzhong, and he was immediately overjoyed. After some calculation, he thought of digging up Li Zichengzu's tomb in order to "cut off his dragon vein", and wrote to Wang Qiaonian, the governor of Shaanxi at the time.
After Wang Qiaonian received Bian Dashou's request, he was also very happy, and immediately made a reply, agreed to Bian Dashou's request, and greatly praised him, saying that if Li Zicheng's rebel army collapsed, his first merit would not be able to run. Such a lack of morality was determined in the written exchanges between the two court officials.
On the other side, bian dashou, who had received the approval, did not dare to be idle, and immediately began to act, and after forty days, he officially surrendered to the top. However, this loss move of Bian Dashou did not play much role. Within three years of digging up Li Zicheng's ancestral tomb, Li Zicheng was instead embroiled and conquered Beijing in 1644, overthrowing the Ming Dynasty.
As a result, it was Bian Dashou who had done evil things, and his life was very sad. Since digging up Li Zicheng's ancestral grave, Bian Dashou has been afraid of Li Zicheng's return to retaliate, and even his family has lived in this fear, and he can't live in fear for a long time.
Later, because of his other appointments, Bian Dashou no longer served as the commander of Mizhi County, and he was almost amnestied, so he quickly ran away with his family and defected to his relatives in Shanxi, and soon after, he heard the news that Li Zicheng had conquered all of Shaanxi. This made Bian Dashou lucky to have escaped the disaster. Later, he heard that the peasant army had won successive battles and captured Beijing, and he began to worry that if Li Zicheng finally won the world, then he would be the first unlucky person.
Bian Dashou's worries were, of course, right. After all, his boss Wang Qiaonian had a miserable end because he agreed to dig up Li Zichengzu's grave. When Li Zicheng learned that his ancestral grave had been dug up, he was furious and swore not to share the heavens with bian dashou and other thieves. When attacking Xi'an, he instructed Wang Qiaonian to come out to negotiate, and when he arrived at the front, he ordered ten thousand arrows to be fired in unison, shooting this great enemy. At that time, Li Zicheng also issued a warrant for the arrest of Bian Dashou.
I have to say that Bian Dashou was indeed very lucky, under the anger of Li Zicheng, he actually saved his life. It was after Li Zicheng entered Beijing that he ordered the hunt for Bian Dashou, and soon someone arrested him and reported him to Li Zicheng. However, at that time, Li Zhicheng ascended the throne in Beijing and granted amnesty to the world, so he suppressed the matter and prepared to say it for a while.
As a result, less than a few months after Li Zicheng entered the city of Beijing, he encountered the Qing army entering the customs. In the Battle of Shanhaiguan, he suffered a major defeat, withdrew from Beijing, and fled for his life all the way, naturally he could not take care of Bian Dashou. Bian Dashou also took advantage of the great confusion of the peasant army to escape and save his life, which was considered to have escaped a disaster.
Later, Li Zicheng died in Jiugong Mountain, Hubei Province, and his death was full of suspense, but no matter what, this heroic figure ended his life in a tragic way, while his enemy Bian Dashou spent the rest of his life in peace and stability. I have to say that history is so interesting that people lament the vagaries of the world and are difficult to figure out.
