Japanese media: The price of Matsutake mushrooms from China has increased by 20% in Japan

author:Bright Net

The Nikkei Chinese network reported on September 22 that in Japan, the price of imported matsutake mushrooms has been higher for two consecutive years. In the case of Matsutake mushrooms from China, which is the main force, wholesale prices in the Tokyo market as of early September were 20% higher than in previous years (the average of the past five years). Under the COVID-19 pandemic, China's household consumption of matsutake mushrooms has increased, and exports to Japan have decreased. In addition, reduced flights have led to high transport costs. U.S.-produced matsutake mushrooms have been affected by forest fires, and it is impossible to determine the timetable for imports, and Japan's demand is biased towards Chinese production. According to statistics from the Tokyo Vegetable and Fruit Information Center, the wholesale price of Chinese matsutake mushrooms was 11,620 yen (about 683 yuan) per kilogram in the Field market in early September, up 20% year-on-year. Wholesale purchases of fruits and vegetables in Daejeon Market in August decreased by 50% year-on-year.
