On December 18, at the 37th press conference on the prevention and control of the new crown pneumonia epidemic in Shaanxi Province, Liu Feng, member of the Party Group of the Shaanxi Provincial Health Commission, director of the Shaanxi Provincial Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and director of the Shaanxi Provincial Center for Disease Control and Prevention, introduced that from December 9 to 18, at 12:00, Shaanxi reported a total of 27 local infection cases (21 confirmed cases and 6 asymptomatic infected people), including 26 cases in 4 districts of Xi'an City and 1 confirmed case in Yan'an City. At present, the epidemic is generally in a period of rapid progress.

The source of infection in Shaanxi was initially determined to be imported from Pakistan on December 4. At the meeting, it was reported that on December 4, Pakistan's Islamabad flight PK854 entered Xi'an, a total of 180 passengers, centralized isolation in Xi'an Baqiao District Jincheng Hotel, as of December 17, the flight has reported 6 imported confirmed cases. The Shaanxi Provincial Center for Disease Control and Prevention conducted whole-gene sequencing of four of the imported cases, all of which were VOC/Delta-India strains (B.1.617.2).

At present, Shaanxi Province has completed whole-gene sequencing of 12 indigenous cases reported from December 9 to 16, and the sequencing results of all 12 people are highly homologous to the imported cases reported by the PK854 inbound flight in Islamabad, Pakistan on December 4. Based on this preliminary judgment, the epidemic in Shaanxi Province is a local epidemic caused by overseas imports.

However, the specific transmission process is not clear, there is a lack of clear correlation between the various transmission chains, and positive cases have been found in the nucleic acid testing of all employees, indicating that there has been a certain degree of community transmission, and the follow-up epidemic is still in a stage of rapid development, and the risk of epidemic transmission is high.
