Looking at the history of the Qing Dynasty, especially in the late Qing Dynasty, it is always infuriating. However, it has always been difficult for the country to have loyal subjects, and good men have been produced in a chaotic world. In 1900, when the Eight-Nation Alliance invaded, the Qing Dynasty appeared a composite figure of loyal subjects and good men, this person was: Dong Fuxiang.
First, the sharp blade in Zuo Zongtang's hand
Dong Fuxiang is a native of Huanxian County, Gansu Province, born in 1840, it is Lin Zexu Humen selling cigarettes, the light of the Great Qing is dim, and it has become a historical division period of the "cash machine" of the great powers.
Dong Fuxiang's father is named Dong Shiyou, a proper big brother of the jianghu and a big family member of the local "Brotherhood of Elders". Therefore, Dong Fuxiang has been influenced by his father since he was a child, and he is full of arrogance.
During the Tongzhi period, Dong Fuxiang, in order to defend his hometown from persecution, conveniently used his jianghu contacts to form a local regiment. However, he was arrested by the county order and almost died in prison. After being rescued, Dong Fuxiang rebelled against the Qing court.
Only three years later, in 1868 AD, Dong Fuxiang had already become a prominent figure, self-proclaimed Grand Marshal, claiming to have 300,000 elite soldiers and controlling more than ten prefectures and counties in Gansu. But in the same year, Liu Songshan, the general of the Xiang Army, pursued the Twist army and also entered the territory of Gansu.
The Qing army under Liu Songshan was an old team of Zeng Guofan, who had fought bloody battles with the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom, and its combat effectiveness was comparable to that of the Qing army. Dong Fuxiang encountered hard stubble this time, and after many days of bloody fighting, he could not fight at all, and he was forced to surrender to Liu Songshan.
And Liu Songshan also has a discerning vision, not only does not remember the past, but is exceptionally appreciative and reused. The reorganization of Dong Fuxiang's troops into the "Dong Zi Three Battalions" became the trump card in his hands and continued to be in dong Fuxiang's control. As a result, Dong Fuxiang gradually grew into a fierce general in the Qing army.
When Zuo Zongtang recovered Xinjiang, Dong Fuxiang naturally became the "sharp blade" in Zuo Zongtang's hands. For example, when attacking Agubai, it was Dong Fuxiang who led his army over the Tianshan Mountains and marched 1200 miles to conquer the gateways of southern Xinjiang: Dabancheng and Toxon. Eventually forcing Agubai to be killed, Bai Yanhu fled in a hurry. Then Dong Fuxiang subdued Hami and swept through Xinjiang, and Guangxu was very happy and ordered his commander-in-chief to lead the military.
At this point, Dong Fuxiang became the most dazzling general in the Qing army. Soon after, he squeezed into the ranks of the feudal officials and steadily suppressed the vast land of Gansu and Xinjiang, and the so-called loyalty and ability of the subjects were nothing more than this.
Second, a good man of the first class in the Qing Dynasty
In 1900 AD, the Boxer Rebellion arose. Perhaps to those eight banner nobles who came out of the "Zhihu Ye" and lived by the glory of their ancestors, etc., it was purely chaotic. However, to Dong Fuxiang, the rise of the Boxers of Righteousness and Boxing is particularly affectionate and cordial.
After all, Dong Fuxiang grew up from the status of a big brother in the jianghu. Therefore, when he was ordered by Cixi to lead an army into Beijing to defend the imperial court, Dong Fuxiang ordered all his subordinates to join the Boxers one after another. Because he had long been unhappy with these foreigners who were doing their best.
For a hot-blooded man like Dong Fuxiang, he actually recognizes a truth: This is our territory, how can we let foreigners be masters? Therefore, soon there was an incident of angry beheading of Sugiyama Bin, the clerk of the Japanese Embassy in China.
On June 11, 1900, Sugiyama heard the news that Vice Admiral Seymour of the British Navy would lead the Coalition army into the capital today. This makes all foreign embassies cheer. But until noon there was not even a shadow of the coalition forces. So Sugiyama volunteered to go to Majiapu Station outside the Yongding Gate, but inquired about the news.
In this way, sugiyama Bin had just arrived near the Yongding Gate in the car, when he was intercepted by Dong Fuxiang's men, who were responsible for defending Kyoto, and asked him what he was going to do.
One is that Sugiyama is accustomed to it and speaks arrogantly. The second is that what kind of generals there are, what kind of soldiers will be brought out. Dong Fuxiang's men were all the same as him, they had long been looking at the foreigners unhappy, and then looking at his virtues, they were suddenly furious, and they cut Shanshan Bin with a knife!
This was hilarious, frightening Cixi to kill Dong Fuxiang to make reparations, fortunately Li Hongzhang said: Now that Dong Fuxiang is going to be killed, what will happen to his men? Can't kill! Cixi was frightened back again, and did not dare to pursue Dong Fuxiang anymore. Zai Yi, the cousin of the Guangxu Emperor, after hearing about this, gave Dong Fuxiang a thumbs up and said, "You are a good man of my first class in Daqing!" terrific! ”
Third, the last good man of the Qing Dynasty
More than two months later, the Eight-Nation Alliance finally came to kill, and at this moment Cixi had fled, and let Dong Fuxiang accompany the team to escort. Today, the capital is in a panic, but in this panic, there is unexpectedly a lone army, unusually firmly guarding Kyoto, it is Dong Fuxiang's men.
In front of the Guangqu Gate, Dong Fuxiang's various units fought against the British army, the blood stained the battlefield, but the general trend had gone, and on all sides were the men and horses of the Eight-Nation Alliance, so they had to retreat while continuing to fight alone at Dongbianmen, Chaoyangmen, and Zhengyangmen, and the "Three Battalions of Dongzi" were bloody kyoto.
Although ultimately defeated, he killed the commander of the Russian colonel, Anningkov, and seriously wounded another Russian general. It can be seen that Dong Fuxiang's various units were resolute and courageous in their battles at that time. It is no wonder that when Cixi sent Li Hongzhang to negotiate with the Eight-Power Alliance, the other side unexpectedly declared that Dong Fuxiang must be killed.
This time Cixi did not agree, not because she woke up, but because she was grateful for Dong Fuxiang's escort along the way. So in the end, Dong Fuxiang was dismissed! But Dong Fuxiang was furious, what if he was dismissed? I will recruit people again and personally go to the bloody battle with the Eight-Nation Alliance.
Because Dong Fuxiang did not obey at all, he was angry in his heart--if it were not for the protection of your Cixi, I would have run out with it, causing me to divide the troops and generals, how could I have lost to Kyoto? Unfortunately, he was blocked by Cixi again, and finally Dong Fuxiang had no choice but to return to his hometown for the elderly, and eight years later, in 1908, he died of illness in his hometown.
However, Dong Fuxiang's will was to hand over the family property "400,000 taels of silver to the national treasury, and to transport more than 1,600 foreign guns to Ningxia."
What is this for? Of course, I was not convinced. Therefore, Dong Fuxiang is not so much a loyal subject as he is "the last good man of the Qing Dynasty", because he also has a testament that "he failed to fulfill his loyalty in his old age, and he regretted that he could not repay the imperial court"!
