Jin-Cha-Ji Pictorial was the first large-scale photographic pictorial published by the Communist Party of China, founded on July 1, 1942, and published in 13 issues. On May 20, 1948, the Jin-Cha-Ji Pictorial and the Jin-Ji Luyu People's Pictorial were merged to form the North China Pictorial.

Most people can't read words, but they can read pictures

Speaking of the "Jin-Cha-Ji Pictorial", it is impossible not to mention the famous photographer Sha Fei. After the outbreak of the All-out War of Resistance, Sha Fei traveled north from Guilin, arrived in Jinchaji in October, and was specially approved by Nie Rongzhen to become a photojournalist accompanying the army, and soon became the vice president of Jinchaji Daily. For more than a period of time from October 1937 to 1939, Sha Fei took many photographs of the Eighth Route Army's War of Resistance.

In order to let everyone know about the Eighth Route Army's War of Resistance, in the spring of 1939, Sha Fei and others held a small photography exhibition in Jiaotanzhuang, Pingshan County. Although the scale is small and there are not many photos, it still caused a big sensation. Because at that time, most of the people did not know how to read and could not read newspapers and magazines, but they could understand the photos and intuitively see the scene of the eighth route army's battle and victory from the photos. Therefore, the masses of the ten miles and eight townships came to visit like a temple fair, and the scene was very lively.

The whole military region fully supports the operation of pictorials

The unexpected enthusiasm of the masses made Sha Fei have the idea of printing a pictorial. However, at that time, the Jin-Cha-Ji base area was tightly sealed by the Japanese army, and even daily necessities were in short supply, so how to raise the equipment and materials needed to print pictorials? This is not a mimeograph tabloid, just a simple printing equipment, but also need more than a camera, copper plate, zinc plate, ink, fine paper and various chemical reagents.

However, Sha Fei's idea was supported by the Jin-Cha-Ji Military Region, and Commander Nie Rongzhen and other leaders of the military region said: All the funds for the preparation of pictorials are solved by the military region, and under the principle of trying to save as much as possible, we will give as much as we want, and we will transfer as many people as we need, and fully support the establishment of pictorials. In order to support the production of photographic plates, Commander Nie even contributed his own telescope.

After

After 3 years of preparation, the pictorial was officially published

The support from top to bottom of the border area gave Sha Fei great confidence, and they collected all kinds of useful talents and equipment from the whole military region and made the equipment themselves. As for the high-end equipment that cannot be solved in the border areas, it can only be purchased through underground party organizations in big cities. To this end, in addition to the limited gold reserves of the border areas, some comrades died heroically in the process of purchasing and escorting equipment.

After three years of preparation, on May 21, 1942, the Jin-Cha-Ji Pictorial Was officially established, with Sha Fei as its president, and there were more than 100 people in the company. Although at this time the Japanese army launched the most brutal "sweep" in the history of the base area, coupled with serious natural disasters, the base area was in the most difficult period, but the pictorial personnel worked day and night, and finally printed the inaugural issue of the Jin-Cha-Ji Pictorial on July 1, 1942, presenting a rich gift for the party's 21st birthday.

Rikou regarded the Jin-Cha-Ji Pictorial as a thorn in his eye

On July 7, a total of 1,000 pictorials were bound and published, and spread to various base areas and enemy-occupied areas, bringing great hope and encouragement to the people who insisted on resisting the war behind enemy lines, and also shocking the Japanese army. Because this pictorial was so beautifully printed, the enemy once thought that this pictorial was printed in a large city in the occupied area, and sent traitors and spies to search around.

However, the Japanese military's espionage system still had some skills, and soon found that this pictorial was actually printed in the base area, so on the one hand, it further tightened the blockade of the materials needed for printing and printing, and on the other hand, the Jin-Cha-Ji Pictorial Was also regarded as an important target of attack during the "sweeping", and people were sent everywhere to conduct reconnaissance. On April 19, 1943, less than one year after the establishment of the pictorial newspaper, it was surrounded by Japanese troops on three sides in the area of Pingshan County, Hebei Province.

The Jin-Cha-Ji Pictorial Company continued to grow in battle and sacrifice

During the breakout, the famous photojournalist Lei Ye was seriously injured, and after calmly smashing the camera and fountain pen, he committed suicide with the last bullet and was martyred. Although danger is everywhere, the Jin-Cha-Ji Pictorial Company has continued to grow in the battle, and the pictorial newspapers printed have become more and more exquisite, so that those who see it will love it and regard it as a treasure. At that time, the base areas regarded "the broadcasting of Shaanxi, Gansu, and Ningxia and the copper plates of Jin-Cha-Ji" as the two major creations and two magic weapons of our party in its propaganda work.

Nowadays, most of the photos we see about the Jin-Cha-Ji War of Resistance are from the Jin-Cha-Ji Pictorial, which not only proves to the world that the Eighth Route Army carried out a heroic war of resistance behind the enemy lines, but also left an incomparably precious historical image for future generations.
